My Jeb Bush Story
Edited on Mon Apr-12-04 08:30 PM by WillyBrandt
I've posted this before, but here it is once again.

Senior year of high school, in 1998, Jeb Bush comes by my AP government class in the outlands of Miami. He was campaigning for governor of Florida and gave us the usual blah-blah, and then asked us--in a pretence of learning--"could anyone tell me what your favorite Amendment to the Constitution is?"

I blurted out: "The one repealing prohibition!"

An aside: Freshman year of high school, Bob Graham came by. In person he was really impressive; knew how to work the crowd, remembered everyone's name. Teacher didn't like him, but I thought he was alright.

2. Actually don't remember
I think it was just quickly passed over.

No, he's not as stupid as his brother, that's for sure. If I had to peg him, it'd be basically as a lobbyist type--that is, not nearly as smart as a lawyer, but enough basic sense to speak coherently and act decent when requried.

3. That's the Scary Part
Jeb has long been the Bushes' hope to carry the family name through the next generation of politics. It's almost hard to believe how much better polished and refined he is than his older brother, George. And yet in an odd twist of fate -- the split result of both brothers' gubernatorial races in 1994 -- the unlikelier of the two was placed in a better position to seek (and unfortunately, to steal) the Presidency.

With all the damage that Bush II has been doing to our country and the world, however, I'd like to think that we may hopefully be spared any notion of Bush III. But Jeb is definitely not George, and as we see repeated all too often in history, the collective memory of the American people can be brief.

As they say at the smirkingchimp.com, keep your eyes on Jeb, always.
