Poll question: Has violence against gays been on the rise?
I believe that it has but need proof and articles. Thanks for whatever input you can provide (I'm in an argument with someone who thinks otherwise.)

1. I keep track of this sort of thing
I don't have any specific links, but murders of gays has tripled in the last year.

I'll see what I can dig up.

2. Thanks
With regards to the military, I know a sailor was thrown overboard and a soldier in Fort Bragg (or a marine in Camp Lejune?)was killed for being gay. I just can't find anything yet.

3. Just the facts, ma'am (or sir)
According to these folks, http://www.center4civilrights.org/hcstatistics.htm , reported hate crimes based on gender orientation tripled between 1991 and 2001.

The official FBI Uniform Crime Reports for 2001 are at http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/01hate.pdf - It's taking a loooooong time to load so you might have better luck at http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr.htm .

Now, whether or not reported crimes reflect a real increase in that type of crime, or better categorization of crimes, or an increase in the likelihood of a particular type of crime getting reported is a matter for further discussion.
