Three more dead soldiers---now on page EIGHT of newspaper
The war dead keep getting less and less coverage in our Gannett-owned newspaper. Gannett is responsible for such papers as USA Today, which more or less brings us the "happier" news. God forbid that stories of US servicemen appear on the cover of their paper and possibly upset readers. Out of sight-Out of mind.

2. News coverage
Excellent article in The Nation, "Journalists Take Flak in Iraq." Tells how camera disks and videotapes are destroyed by the troops. American troops have attempted to destroy press credentials, have assaulted and even shot at journalists.
30 journalists sent a letter to the Pentagon citing their concerns. The Pentagon said they would "look into it" but no improvement has been seen.
Journalists are especially concerned at White House decisions made to restrict the media's ability to cover return of soldiers killed in Iraq and their burial at Arlington Cemetary. The Pentagon says they are not doing this to cover up anything but to "respect the privacy of the fallen soldiers' families." It should be up to the families if they want the burial of their loved ones covered by the press. I know if my child were killed in war I would want the world to know.

3. The NeoCons are actually covering-up the actual number of dead...
...American soldiers. The number we are being given does not include those killed in Afghanistan, nor does it include those who have been hospitalized in Germany but later die from their extremely severe wounds.

4. Be grateful ...
... that your Gannett newspaper at least still has a Page 8.

5. The media has totally abrogated its responsibility
It's hard to know where to even begin regarding the stories the media refuses to cover, regarding the insanity and radical nature of this administration. Oh well, J-Lo and Ben are covered, as are Michael Jackson, Scott Peterson and "American Idol." You know, the important stuff.
