Great article by Eric Margolis... who is fearless in his criticism of Bush
Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 09:28 AM by glarius
I and others have posted articles by Margolis before....He's an American Republican living in Toronto, who has many years experience with the middle east and far east problems and is a recognized expert...He has been against Bush's adventures from the beginning....Although Margolis is a Republican, he is not a right wing extremist and seems very moderate in much of what he says..

1. How long has he lived in Toronto?
A truly courageous guy.... I guess if he considers himself a Republican, then that is proof there are still some good repugs around.

6. He's been here for decades.
The only mind of merit in the Toronto Sun.

He was one of CBC's commentators during the launch of the war, with Gwynne Dyer. Brilliant analysis. We're lucky.

5. You're welcome......I'm so impressed by his fearlessness
I sometimes wonder if he has any qualms about how he will be greeted at the American border when he goes into the States....:)

8. Great article!
Really characterizes the American situation exactly: "Proto-totalitarianism."

<...absolute power corrupts absolutely.>

<For America's hard right - a curious farrago of Armageddon-seeking southern Protestants; neo-conservative supporters of Israel's right-wing Likud party; and the military-industrial-petroleum complex - the Bush administration's aggressive foreign policy of world domination, and utter contempt for international laws and old allies, marks a new era of national greatness...>

10. Margolis demonstrates how broad the opposition
to Bush should be.

This isn't a struggle between left and right. It's between liberty and tyranny.

Conservatives - true conservatives worthy of the term - want to be slaves or slaves masters no more than we do.

13. I agree.....the struggle is not between conservatives and liberals, but
between extreme right wing (religious) zealots and moderate, thinking people, of all parties...

11. We need more guys like him down here
But you know what would happen. No major paper would let him write such truth pieces. They'd never publish such articles. He'd probably be relegated to the internet in an attempt to get his message out.

Great article.

12. This guy has been writing scathing anti-NeoCon commentaries since...
...911. He is an excellent writer, and as you said, utterly fearless.

Thanks for posting this...I'm sending a copy to my 83 year old Dad who feels the exact same way as Margolis.

15. Bush radicalized him.
Margolis knows his geopolitics. He can't be hoodwinked by the hoax of the War on Terror.

I wonder how close he is to LIHOP. He's sounding like Michael Meacher.

16. an absolute MUST-READ
will be sending this link around!

Criticizing U.S. foreign policy run-amok and George Bush does not equal anti-Americanism. It is the citizen's birthright, and the friend's duty.

Mankind's three worst scourges are religious fanaticism, nationalism and imperialism. Each of these three evils has been whipped up by the Bush administration to justify domination abroad, repression of dissidence at home and, of course, re-election.

Those who truly love and respect the United States, like this writer, a conservative and U.S. Army veteran, see the very qualities that made America a beacon to the world - its very soul - now under heavy assault by a cabal of religious fanatics, foreign-leaning ideological extremists, and self-enriching Enron-Republicans. That is a danger considerably greater than al-Qaida.

17. Must point out that the paper Margolis writes for is a very conservative
George Bush supporting paper, and yet, week after week they publish his diatribes against Bush...

20. This is, indeed, an excellent article...
I fervently hope that enough Americans will wake up and vote Bush out in November. I have been shocked at the "terrorist under every bed" hysteria that has gripped our nation.

As far as labeling the U.S. as the leader in a fight of good vs. evil, I contend that until we have full employment, universal health care, and a government which governs for the good of the people, rather than the corporations, we have no right to label ourselves as good.

There are too many things wrong in our country today, and every flaw we ever had have been magnified and expanded under Bush. I wish I could see more and more articles, pointing out the truth.
