(NM)State Sees Surprising Number Of New Democrats
http://www.thenewmexicochannel.com/politics/2734272/detail.html

Most political eyes will be on New Mexico in early February, when the state holds its Democratic presidential caucus. Tuesday was the deadline to register to vote.

In Bernalillo County, 620 people signed up in November.

This month, 900 registered to vote Democratic.

The Bernalillo County Clerk's Office says most of the people who registered as Democrats were formerly members of the Green Party. Again, all registered Democrats can vote in the caucus Feb. 3.

I have to give the Green Party props. I hope that they do play a big role in electing the nominee.

1. Kucinich might have some delegates from NM at the convention
Disclaimer: I am not now nor have I ever been a member of the Green Party.

The Greens would stick to Greens if there was no Kucinich running. Well, that's my take on it.

By the way, this is not a bad thing. It is about time we start bringing back those that left the Democratic party for the Green party.

I have a bitter feeling in my entire being everytime I hear the name Nader, but my mind may have been changed a bit today.

First off my closest friend voted for Nader and I have never let him live it down. I tell him quite simply that Bush is his fault, or at least him and people like him. There is nothing he can say except that he disliked Gore and could not bring himself to vote for him. He says that and I thank him once again for Bush. It embarasses him, because he knows its true.

Then today I was talking to a fellow at work who detests Bush as well. He told me that during the 2000 election he was living in Alabama. He said that he too had voted for Nader but not because he disliked Gore at all, in fact Gore was his desired President. His reason for voting for Nader, as he told me, was that it was absolutly clear to him that Bush was going to take the state no matter what. So he hoped that by voting for Nader he could at least be part of a vote count that he thought the Republican administration, which he was pretty sure was comming, would have to take into consideration while they were in power.

Needless to say he was wrong, but only in the sense that he underestimated the arrogance of the clowns who were comming to power. Normally you'd expect an incomming administration, one that clearly had no mandate from the voters, but one that had seen that a sizable portion of the populace was very interested in the environment, would temper their lust to rape the land. I do not fault my Indian friend for this, hell, he could not have possibly forseen how utterly insensitive, or is that unconcerned, the Bush people would be to their concerns.

Just one more year and one more week.

Thom

something like 10,000 of Gore's votes disappeared at two o'clock in the morning on election night.
94,000 people were denied their right to vote and Tennessee was "won" by 80,000 votes...and people still insist on villianizing the Greens.

I have yet to see any news about investigations being done in the south as far as voting rights are concerned.

If we lose because of the nominee or because of lack of prior action it's because we deserve it.

7. Maybe that's not such good news.
I know that the Freepers were talking about registering as Democrats to vote for Sharpton. I wonder?

OTOH, if they did manage to get Sharpton the nomination, they just might be surprised.

9. I worked the Farmer's Market every Saturday for 8 weeks,
giving out Kucinich information and registering voters, and letting voters change their party. Greens are dying to vote for Kucinich!!David Bacon, the former Green candidate for Governor, is working with the Kucinich campaign.

BTW, notice this report is from Albuquerque, which is not a particularly "Green" area of the state. So even there, they are noticing a big difference.

GO, DENNIS.:yourock:

11. Great
I remember back to the 2000 election, NM seemed to find another lost box of votes every time someone opened up a broom closet! Hopefully everyone keeps a closer eye on the vote counters this year!!!

12. Everytime someone opened a broom closet...LOL
The biggest hitch was in Albuquerque, where votes of people who voted the straight Democratic ticket were not counted, at first.

Seriously folks, with a candidate that actually appeals to the people, we have made big strides. If DK gets the nomination and/or the platform isn't same-o, same-o toward corporations, actually gets some DK-like teeth into alternative energy and makes Democrats more Green-friendly, mebee we kin KEEP the Greens back in the party.

Good nationally if we can, because NM just BARELY was in the blue column in 2000.

14. Hurrah for my homestate!
I can feel the energy from here!

I saw the pictures from Dennis' speeches in NM, and he sure had 'em wound up! I can imagine there will be a lot of voters turning out for him. His message would very much appeal to a state with such diversity.

I'll be anxiously watching for the caucus results.

caucus, caucus, caucus, caucus ^_^

Thanks for the info!

Kanary
