3. wasn't Rove canned
for a similar incident in Bush 1's administration?

And, they may just have it for show. Rove publically fired, media makes Bush seem tough & lawful for firing such a close advisor. Meanwhile, Rove runs things from a hotel room somewhere.

4. Cheney is being set up as the fall guy--we'll see him walk the plank
soon after the election(assuming it goes against the Dems.) Then Shrubbie will get to appoint a substitute. Maybe even Ashcroft! won't that be fun?

6. Think you are right, librechik
When I saw a George Will column comparing negatives of Cheney and Howard Dean, I thought that Cheney will be gone.

7. I'd much rather Ashcroft as VP than AG assuming that Bush won't die...
But that's a pretty hefty assumption.

5. It was because they got away from their usual practice of....
one line for republicans and another line for democrats. It was "right track" or "wrong track"

8. leaks and the leakers who leak them :D
just a thought and a question....

According to Novak, he gets a call from an "upper" level WH official, who tells him Plame is CIA agent, Novak writes his article outing Plame. The focus of his article is that Plame is CIA - NOT the fact that an "upper" level WH official leaked the info

Novak has been around for years, in all forms of the media - he's got more than enough experience to know what's what - and most certainly experienced enough to know that exposing an agent's identity is illegal

my question: instead of "outing" Plame, why didn't he report/leak the name of the "upper" level WH official to the appropriate authorities?

if exposing an agent is illegal on the part of the "upper" level WH official - then by publishing that info doesn't that make Novak a partner in crime?

Novak had a choice when that bit of info fell into his lap - he could have written the article which named Plame (which he did) or he could have written an article which would have exposed the leaker directly or indirectly or not write the article and contacted the appropriate authorities and informed them of the leak
