Why some people pirate games...
South Africans have to pay the equivalent to $117.59 Canadian for Playstation 2 games...Would you feel bad pirating games knowing you were being screwed up the ass by publishers?

1. Pirating
Pirating games is cheaper and less of a burden on the consumer.

Think of all the copy protections that exist in software today

Cases in point:
My friend, today, was complaining that his version of Windows XP, WHICH HE BOUGHT, asked him to activate again because he changed out a video card. Anyone who warezed XP Pro, does not have to put up with activation at all.

PC Games. Many consumers of PC games have to put up with copy protection schemes such as safedisc et al. that lower the performance of the computer. By installing a 'cracked' version of the software, the game will run smoother and faster.

Many people who warez games do so because they complain the cost of games is so high for shoddy programming.

2. I agree...
After their refusal to patch their buggy PC port of Grandia 2, which I paid $40 for, I decided that I would never pay for an UbiSoft game again.

And Diablo 2 is maddening: Usually I install no-CD cracks on games that I own for my own convenience. I can't find one that works with battle.net though...lol

sure, most developers offer a pre-release demo, but sometimes the final product doesn't match up. Example: I'm into racing simulators, I mean REALLY into them. This last year, the race sim community anxiously awaited no less than 3 games, IndyCar Racing, Aussie V8s, and the touted Race Driver, to be released. In all three cases, the pre-release demos appeared quite promising, whereas the final release was nothing more than console games ported to PC. In other words, the physics engine was nonexistent, and the cars drove from a center point, rather than from the wheels. I didn't spend a lot of money setting up my racing wheel to drive cars developed for a gamepad. If I had spent money on those games, I would have been pissed off to no end. As it stands, I managed to find compromised copies of all 3 games, and was able to determine that they weren't worth the bother.
