My Presidential Theory

I have been thinking a long time what are the traits or characteristics necessary to be elected president. You need one or more of these characteristics or traits to win. They are:

shtick- a good example is Carter's 1976 campaign where he promised "never to lie to you" or to give you a "government as good as it's people"

story- John F. Kennedy's PT109 heroics helped lift him to the highest office

charisma- Bill Clinton's charisma helped him carry the day


pedigree- Bush's pedigree is what helped propell him to the highest office


* I can think of very few contemporary presidents who didn't have any of these traits. Besides Truman who became president after assuming the office only Nixon lacked any of these traits. He did it through sheer determination and hard work.
