book: All the Shah's Men (just like today)
Edited on Mon Jul-28-03 12:50 PM by protect freedom impe
quote from book jacket -

"Half a century ago the United States overthrew a Middle
Eastern government for the first time. The victim was
Mohammad Mossadegh, the democratically elected prime
minister of Iran. Although the coup was a success at first,
today it serves as a chilling lesson about the danger of foreign
intervention."

American govt has been busy overthrowing democracies across the globe
since the CIA spooks overthrew the Iran Prime Minister.

Why you ask? because the democratic govt of Iran nationalized their
own oil fields, SO the British got the US to overthrow the Iranian govt to install an oil 'friendly' bastard -- THE SHAH.

The Brits got 60% and the US got 40% of the oil.

Sounds like the CIA spooks are still overthrowing govts, now
in the open by BushSR/CIA/PNAC overthrow of Saddam, to install
a 'oil friendly' govt.

"A well-researched object lesson in thew dismal folly of so-called
nation-building. British and American readers of today should blush
with shame"
-- John le Carre, author of THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM
THE COLD and THE TAILOR OF PANAMA

"Stephen Kinzer's brilliant reconstruction of the Iranian coup is
made even more fascinating by the fact it is true. It is as gripping
as a thriller, and also tells much about why the United States is
involved today in places like Afghanistan and Iraq"
-- Gore Vidal, author of LINCOLN, BURR, and 1876.

1. I ordered it through Buzzflash.com
Can't wait to read it - should be fascinating, to put it mildly.
