If I Hear the Words "Spider Hole" One More Time....
I'm going to scream.

This day of Bush-suckling, FOX-ified "patriotism" is killing me.

The "Now what do you liberals have to say about the war" chants are beyond absurd.

Freaking trolls!

Make them go away!

1. heh
last night I was writing comedy with some friends, and every 5 minutes or so one of us would say something like: "Say, did you hear they captured Saddam Hussein?" "Apparently he was in a spider hole."

This routine went on for a good 9 hours or so.

This is why our comedy isn't very good.

5. Take a break before
you go nuts from this hoopla. Just wait till it all comes back piece by piece to bite them all in the butt, then guess who will get the last laugh? Too bad this laugh will have to come at the sacrifice of so many lives.

3. I just wish someone would explain WTF a "spider hole" is supposed to be!
Because I had never before heard the term in my life.

4. apparently its a Vietnam-era term
what cracked me up was the breathless way the anchorcreatures would use the word early on in the day, as if they knew what it meant.

20. Although cf. "Vietnam-era" spider hole,
this was a spider palace.

A spider hole can be dug with an entrenching tool.

Actually, "bolt hole" is more what this was, and if it were indoors it would be a 'priest hole'.

Quite expectedly, this also gave the occasion for more bursts of reporter malapropism with flecky reference to "special forces". That error has become so common it is about to become accepted use.

6. Me too, but
At the end of the day, spider hole is descriptive. Anything else would be beyond the pale.

and found it clever. I understood what you were doing.

Edit: Having said that, another scenario could be in order.

9. The Gloating is What's Getting on My Nerves
Some lady here at work came up behind me and started singing a revised version of Take Me to the Moon -- We Really Got Saddam. My boss told me that my guy Dean was now dust for being against the war. Someone else was bragging about how Bush got him. All gloating at me for being the only one with the gonads to say I was against the war from the beginning.

Suddenly he's caught and all is well and good in Iraq? And I'm stupid for not wanting to go there?

WHAAAAAAA?

I swear I'm in Never Never Land.

Either that or that stuff I did in college way back is finally kicking in...

14. They did the same kind of thing twelve years ago...
When Poppy's approval ratings were pushing 90%, he was obviously a "war hero", and the media whores (some of the same usual suspects squawking today) claimed that "The Democrats might as well run some old war-horse like Lloyd Bentsen for president in 1992, because no one worth talking about is going to touch Bush. They need to save their best people for '96." Remember when Jay Leno, then just starting his tenure as "Tonight Show" host, said that Clinton was going to ask the Arkansas Legislature to divide the state in two, "...so that he could say he carried two states this year"?:eyes:

One of my favorite joys throughout life has been in proving doubters and nay-sayers wrong. I look foward to playing a tape of these idiots again a year from now as a Dem. president-elect prepares to take office, just as we enjoyed playing them when Clinton was set to begin his presidency!:D

B-)

11. I'm also amazed...
That with the capture of the Ace of Hobo's that all the deaths and other casualties of this invasion are being trivialized--its just a game,HELL lets do it in some other country!!!

Did pulling SH out of a hidy-hole bring anyone back to life? Mend any arms or legs blown off so Dick Cheney and Halliburton can screw US taxpayers out of millions? You'd think so,they all see to be forgotten.

Given time and a coalition of many nations SH would have taken asylum or been removed with very little loss of life. Of course that would have been precluded the invasion by Halliburton.

Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 04:52 PM by linazelle
They'll be gleefully reading this one on air tomorrow as they try to bring down DU too. Can't let it happen. This has to be put into perspective. Truth is, we all know that catching Saddam is meaningless. I have been arguing with freepers on these boards for months about what Saddam did and when he did it. Most of the stuff Saddam did was over a decade ago and Bush's criminal daddy addressed it. So all the hoopla is about nothing. The real issue is whether Saddam posed the significant threat that BushCo claimed that compelled Bush to invade Iraq and that justifies killing 10,000 Iraqi civilians. So far, they've proven nothing.

Goddamn, I hate freedom. I had to restrain myself earlier this morning, I was tempted to burn a flag because I couldn't stand so much freedom in my corn flakes.

23. 'spider hole' used for the connotation
See, <Saddam is a SPIDER sitting in the middle of a web of terrorists whom he controls>

So <we've captured/taken out a MAJOR terrorist controller>

This is part of the implicit message to everyone by emphasizing the word SPIDER.

Also most people dislike spiders.

But, on the other hand, in mid-western folklore....

....if you kill a spider, it will rain

So there's some negative (for bushco) in the emphasis that we've taken out the spider.

29. I saw one of the state media whores crawling in and out
of it (think it was ABC), yapping like he just met the baby jesus. I mean, the paint hasn't even dried yet and they tossed M. Jackson aside like yesterdays garbage news. Funny this is...I still haven't heard the one question that has been on my mind all weekend - where are those darn WMD? They got "the Man" and I'm sure a few well placed wires to his testicles (followed by a few liberal volts of electricity) would make him squawk like a stool pigeon. So where are they?
