1. That's really terrible news
Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 03:22 PM by jpgray
You almost want to believe the fairy tale of "Saddam gone; attacks gone" but it is impossible to assume that this resistance only goes as far as Baath party loyalists--Iraqis have been waiting for a power vacuum for a *long* time.

edit: And I feel awful for the guys that have to go up and disarm these things--how do they know a civilian isn't standing nearby waiting to activate it when they get close? The fear must be horrific--how do you get that job?

6. A volunteer goes in with trust in his/her leaders
That this administration has betrayed that trust by putting U.S. soldiers in harm's way for a frivolous and avaricious cause is one of the most abominible things they have done.

8. That is a hero

in my book. I cannot imagine what it takes to volunteer for a job like that. And the truly depressing part is that this soldier's name and sacrifice will disappear down the memory hole. He/she will go into another "transfer tube" to be shipped home in secret.
