Yes, Saddam was a horrible person (according to what I've read about him), but when will we take responsibility for the deaths we caused?

2. Interesting statistic...
Do you have any information on the number of deaths for similar causes (infant mortality, hunger, "curable illness, etc.) for the period 1983 - 1990? Or 1976 - 1983? Or any 7 year period under Saddam, but pre-sanctions? I don't doubt the number of deaths - I accept them for the sake of argument. But do we have the proper basis for comparison?

There are lies.
There are damned lies.
And then there are statistics.

3. I find it hard to blame sanctions when you see the palaces Saddam built.

5. Saddam killed a lot more than 61,000
He killed 61,000 *in Baghdad*. He killed around half a million altogether.

6. It wasn't the fault of the sanctions, it was the fault of Saddam
He continued to break the rules imposed after his invasion of Kuwait. He did not obey the treaty and his nation suffered as a result.

7. Its called "Moral Responsibility"
When we saw that Saddam had no intention of changing his ways, we should have found another way to punish him. Standing by idly while millions die cannot be excused with the statement that it was "Saddam's fault."
