1. Actually...
Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 12:37 AM by FDRrocks
in a broder spectrum its making a RW point. Gore is speaking them, Dean is timidly trying to refute them.

Odd.

"Howard Dean will go up to Saddam Hussein and say 'Why are we fighting each other when our enemy is George W. Bush'"

I mean... I know some people take this stuff lightly, but there are some asshole sitting back feeling reaffirmed in thier beliefs.

2. It's a hoot!
Fucking hilarious! It's making fun of Gore trying to set Dean up to lose.

4. I enjoyed it
Funny. SNL always went after Gore. However that cartoon about Bush today was funny.

Tina's piece on Bush rewarding the american businessman heros for their sacrifices in Iraq was really good.

17. I'm not sure what you mean
I read the sketch as anti-Dean and anti-Gore and anti-Democratic.

19. That is what I am saying

Those who found it funny on this board hopefully find it funny because they have a greater appreciation of the politics involved. The average SNL viewer probably laughed half-heartily believing it to be simple a character assasination sketch.

(On Edit)
For the record i did not find it funny

25. They always do that
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 04:35 AM by interceptor
SNL is hard to nail down. I think Weekend Update mostly goes our way, but they swing back and forth to hit both sides on political stuff. I remember Dana Carvey(?)'s Bush Sr. begging America to not make him a "one termer," and then whoever's Clinton "coming clean" right before leaving office. I'd rather they do that then be decidedly one way or the other...its all fun and games, folks...

6. Like the rest of the show, it's not funny.
The studio audience wasn't really laughing either.

The writing sucks. It wasn't "over the top" enough to be funny; and there wasn't really any point. I think it was just an excuse to roll out the mediocre Al Gore impersonation.

7. Hope ABDers and the new found anti-Gore posse...
have plenty of kleenex. Their brand of "jubilation" over a fellow Dem being slammed can get so messy.

:puke:

10. What crap that was
Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 12:42 AM by WillyBrandt
Ugh. Unfair, of course. But not even funny. (The Dean guy had Howie all wrong. They need a better guy.)

I'm sorry. Perhaps I'm paranoid, but I can't help but see this as a foreshadowing of the crap Dems will suffer from the whore press if Dean gets the nod.

Perhaps the electoral logic for choosing Clark is simply that he's harder to ridicule: it's harder to feel better than him.

If Dean wins, I hope very much that I'm wrong.

13. I feel the same way...
I think he is an easy target. While some take the Karl Rove comment as Rove shitting his pants over the idea of Dean, I take it as it is... he want's the man b/c he could rip him to shreds.

16. Exactly: an easy target
Dean is no McGovern. I trust him to fight tooth and nail.

But I worry that given the worthless state of our national discourse, and the essential corruptness of our media gatekeepers, that the debate on Dean will focus not on the quality of his ideas, but a bunch of stupid jokes and nonsense gimmicks slung his way.

Ugh. Again, I hope Clark wins; and if Dean wins, I hope that entirely wrong. But we'll see.

23. Yes, the underlayer of humor was not obvious to us rubes
It wasn't funny at any level. It didn't even have basic comedic technique on its side. It just sucked.

It was a dumb satire that said nothing smart. My worry is that this is as good as its going to get. The worthlessness of our media will allow the discourse to remain at this low, shitty level.

That's my fear.

different actor. They also did Clark last week. I smiled at it. It's SNL it's what they do. They really blew up Bush tonight. This Gore thing was a light hearted skit.

27. On the One Hand, It Was the Best SNL in Years
It had more political content than most times. The SMIGEL cartoon was totally WITH us, showing Shrub in COSTUME after COSTUME, starting with the flight suit, but then even more ridulously (if that is possible) depending on what special interest group he was reading to, dressed as a TREE in front of environmentalists, in a hospital smock with walker in front of Seniors. There's a video clip in the Lounge provided by (Wonk? I think).

And Tina FEY's rant about the Halliburton's "deserving" the spoils was totally awesome, the best she has delivered in all this time she has supposedly been one of us.

That said, HAMMOND's Tweety continues to portray him as a good guy, as a Lib, as the voice of reason compared to "wacky" guests, so this is clearly so wrong. And his GORE continues to be vicious to GORE.

It is NOT "fun and games" and it is NOT equal bashing of both sides. The comedians and IMUS claimed during 2000 that their only reason for picking Shrub was that he is such a GOOF that he would provide endless comedic material for them. I humbly ask, where has it been, lo these 3 years?
