This week's Bill Moyers NOW - Freedom of Information, a thing of the past?
http://www.pbs.org/now/thisweek/index.html

This week on NOW:

In a NOW investigation with U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT, David Brancaccio examines the government's actions to limit access to information about issues from toxic pollutants to airline and auto safety--leaving them hidden from public scrutiny. The broadcast looks at how, in an era in which homeland security is imperative, government transparency has been diminished, leaving the public--and democracy--at risk.

Pulitzer prize-winning writer Dorothy Rabinowitz's work has spanned a wide range of topics. She currently serves as editorial board member, political writer and culture critic for THE WALL STREET JOURNAL. Prior to joining the Journal, Rabinowitz was a freelance writer for a variety of publications, including COMMENTARY, HARPER'S, and NEW YORK magazine. Most recently, Rabinowitz published NO CRUELER TYRANNIES: ACCUSATION, FALSE WITNESS, AND OTHER TERRORS OF OUR TIMES. She has also had a range of opinions on Bill Moyers works and joins him on NOW to talk about bias in the media and what's in the news.

Bill Moyers talks to New York Attorney General, Eliot Spitzer, a man on the frontlines of the widening US mutual fund industry probe. Recently, Spitzer's office has been investigating and bringing charges against several Wall Street companies and individuals for trade abuses and irregularities, calling his findings a "cesspool." Spitzer discusses everything from his crusade for corporate reform to states' efforts to combat attempts to weaken the Clean Air Act.

10. My local PBS is fund-raising this week ...
Edited on Sat Dec-13-03 02:45 AM by Bozita
... last week too.

Here's another Moyers program that won't be seen in Canada. My local PBS is used as the satellite feed for Canadian cable systems.

BUT, let's have our government spend the bucks to create a new TV network in Iraq.

PBS begs; US/Iraq TV prospers on the American tab.

What part of the "Public" in "Public Broadcasting System" don't I understand?

TIA for your assistance.

16. Good program:
I was especially intrigued by the conservative's take on Dean. It's the first time I've heard anyone adequately explain his candidacy, and seem to geniunely respect it.

Overall, this is not suprising. The Bush administration has been nororiously secret (exactly why is the Office of Comptroller of the Currency trying to ban state lawsuits--isn't that a matter for Congress?).

The media has been complicit in their silence. They're like a bunch of law students that want to get called on in class. It's too bad they've been bought by prime time appearances in a staged press conference.

18. I was appalled by the conservative's aura, however.
And the nonsense that Liberals have debased colleges by immediately categorizing people into various minority groups (she mentioned gay/lesbian organizations, etc.). I don't recall being branded and sent to a special dorm for vegetarian neohippies by a Liberal Overlord as I stepped foot onto campus.

She seemed to be the typical joyless wretch contorted by greed and hatred.

But she did respect Dean for having a message and staying on it.
