National Audubon Society Dick Cheney Watch
The slience from enironmental organizations is deafening. You'd think they'd all be blasting George W. Bush and educating visitors about hundreds of issues on their website. Sadly, most apparently have nothing to say.

Visit the National Audubon Society at http://www.audubon.org/ There's no mention of George W. Bush on their home page or Issues page. There is a link to an article about global warming on the home page, but nothing provocative concerning corporations, Republicans, etc. Don't these people know we're at war with our own government, which is in turn at war with the enviroment?

Imagine if the Audubon Society kicked off a "Dick Cheney Watch," asking all its affiliates to report sightings of Vice President Dick Cheney and put an "Environmental Chickenhawk" link on the home page of their websites. Such a simple gesture could help educate the publict and identify Audubon as an organzation that really cares.

Instead, one has to wonder if Audubon is in fact an environmental chickenhawk.

1. I Think
They are waiting till after the Democratic nomination, which is when most of the American people wake up and start paying attention.

3. Wow, how courageous.
Ignore more than three years of Republican environment bashing, waiting for the perfect candidate to step forward. If that's their policy, shame on Audubon.

2. Doesn't any "environmental " group please you? You just had a post
asking about why there weren't any strong "earth defenders" (my term) left and now you post wondering why the Audubon Society isn't putting Bush and Cheney on their Home Page?

Did you check out any of the links I gave you in your other post? Did you see how they are fighting Bush/Cheney in the Courts? The actions they've taken?

I believe the "Humane Society" is after Cheney for his mass murder of waterfowl in his latest hunt.

Join one of these groups and get active! :-)'s

4. Doesn't ANY environmental group please me?
Of course, I'll support any environmental group that's really fighting the good fight. But most aren't, and even court battles don't necessarily guarantee a group is on the up and up. I've witnessed a number of phony activist groups fight much publicized battles merely to convince the public they're on our side. You have to read between the lines and look at the big picture.

But even if EVERY other environmental organization was on the level, this thread focuses primarily on Audubon, which clearly isn't pulling its weight.

Incidentally, I don't have to join a group to be active. I do pull my weight.

5. Here's a good article in "PA Inquirer " just this Tuesday from Sierra Club

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/7446512.htm
David Muhly

is the Sierra Club's regional representative for the Appalachian region

On Wednesday, President Bush signed the ill-named "Healthy Forests Restoration Act," authorizing sweeping changes in the management of our National Forests. The House had rubber-stamped legislation supported by industry and the administration, and the Senate later passed a "compromise" version of the same bill. In the wake of the California fires, 90 percent of which burned in chaparral and shrubland, supporters of the legislation cynically wasted no time in moving their project forward.

While presented as a "fuels reduction" bill, ostensibly to protect homes and communities at risk from wildfire, the legislation does little of that. Instead, the Bush administration exploited the public's justified fear of fires to pass a bill that effectively cuts the public out of the process, interferes with an independent judiciary, and encourages the logging of trees far removed from areas at risk.

6. Well, you're obviously angry with Envionmental Groups but don't want to
check out the websites I sent you to see who funds them and what actions they've taken. Posting here that these groups have been "infiltrated" or something without posting evidence isn't going to help your case against them. There are alot of folks active in environmental causes on this Board. Since I'm one of the few that answered you, it seems you aren't being taken seriously. Do some checking on the Audubon Society and then post to support your claim. Then I'll know you're serious and not just complaining to complain or dissing these groups because you had a bad expererience with one of them at some time.
