Chip Carter (Jimmy's son) expects Bill Gates to endorse Dean
Chip Carter returns to FD
Stumps for Howard Dean

By MIKE McILHERAN Messenger staff writer

Chip Carter, son of former President Jimmy Carter, showed up again in Fort Dodge. In a very similar fashion to his first trip in 1975 or 1976, while then stumping for his father, a little-known Georgia governor, Carter was asking Fort Dodge voters to again elect another little-known governor, Howard Dean.

Carter said he expects to see several others endorse the former Vermont governor, including Microsoft’s Bill Gates.

Carter said his father would not endorse a candidate until the nomination was decided.

‘‘Then he will be behind the candidate of the party,’’ he explained. ‘‘I am trying to get (Jimmy Carter) to come out sooner when the candidate statistically wins the number of votes needed for the nomination,’’

30. Richard Stallman endorsed Kucinich
it's on the front page of his website (www.stallman.org).

Since I'm feeling nice tonight (and because I make my living off of fixing/creating workarounds for MS software deficiencies)I will not remark on the possibility of a Gates endorsement for Dean.

11. Gates, genius that he is, probably sees the "endgame".
Perpetual warfare, terrorism and fear = BAD FOR COUNTRY/ECONOMY. Progress gets stifled, and uncertainty makes for a poor environment for business and investment (I'm sure Gates sees thru the Repugs bullsh*t voodoo economics). Never mind that the youth and central demographic of Microsoft's users is being shipped off to rot in Iraq.

Add to that, China is right on the U.S.'s tails with its mass wealth of computer programmers and pirates. They are developing their own software and creating their own networks.

seems to be the actual phrase Dean and key supporters have used and this is correct.

I remember watching Clark on CNN when the was started and he didn't seem strongly against it at all. Therefore I see the statement as accurate.

I think deep down BillG is a Dem (His father certainly is - checkout his Estate Tax views), but as a corporate weenie he has to straddle the Dem/Repub fence so he can get what he wants from whoever is in power.

I'd be surprised if it is before the nomination. OTOH his father may very well give money now. Kerry has already had a fund raiser at Gates-Sr's house.

7. politics makes strange bedfellows
yet gates' father is very active in a number of issues that are in opposition to the bushevik agenda, most prominantly the estate tax issue and if anyone were expected to side with repeal of that tax policy it would be the gates family.

perhaps gates will buy al gore a tv network to play with.

wouldn't that be nice?

16. Well, We'll Take It, But...
I hope Bill Gates isn't expecting any favors.

The Dean campaign uses lots of Macs. :-)

Also, according to www.netcraft.com, deanforamerica.com is running Apache on FreeBSD (100% Microsoft free). Subdomains, like commons.deanforamerica.com, are on Linux. Blogforamerica.com is running Apache on Linux (100% Microsoft free). DeanSpace, the open source-based (and free) Dean web site building kit, is platform-independent, with open source MySQL the preferred database. DeanSpace's own web site is Apache on FreeBSD. Pilots for Dean is Apache on Linux.

I only found one exception: howarddean.tv. That's IIS on Windows 2000. Ick. (I think that one's contracted out.)

I like campaigns that keep expenses low. Microsoft costs too much.

35. Possible, but not likely...
Edited on Fri Dec-12-03 12:07 AM by uberotto
Dean had made no secret of the fact that his campaign is based on the lessons learned from the Free / Open Source Software movement.

If BillG endorses Dean, he will also, by association, be endorsing the Open Source Software movement. That's not likely to happen, especially after all the times that BillG and Ballmer have denounced it as Communisitic and UnAmerican.

Also, don't forget the fact that Asscroft basically dropped all charges against Microsoft after they were found guilty of illegaly maintaining their monopoly in desktop software. A slap on the wrist would have seemed extreme compared to the settlement Microsoft got from the Justice Dept.

Well, Dean certainly can't stop Gates from endorsing him without looking like an asshole. *shrug*
