No overtime pay will give the fascist corporations; your life, as their slave.

It will change the whole structure of the worker in this country.

With no overtime pay, it will encourage employers to have their employees work more than their forty hour week without no repercussions, such as paying time and a half…they will just over work their current employees more and keep labor cost at a minimum and understaffed.

You won’t work the extra time; there are plenty of unemployed out there (by design) who will. It will weaken unions to a point of non existence, (also by design.) This truly is a devastating bill the republicans are trying to ram through, for their corporate and business supporters.

Wal-Mart is the blueprint for it all…hire people as salary employees and Wal-Mart can work them sixty hours a week for the same pay as a forty hour employee. With no overtime pay in place it will give corporations incentive, legally, to hire more salary workers and in turn over work them and demand they work overtime with no extra cost to them, all for higher profits.

The Bush Labor Department insists it’s just a small overhaul of policy, but it will actually take away sixty-five years of workers gains. They also insist corporations won’t profit or abuse workers rights. Then why the change, who will it help?

The republican pigs already refuse to consider a much needed hike in the minimum wage, they despise unemployment insurance…one will have no choice.

If this bill passes we truly won't have any choices, either work hours and hours overtime, work for salary and become more of a slave or we’ll find someone else who will…there’s plenty of unemployed out there. All existing rules as we've known them in our lifetime, will be out the window. Forget about OSHA, they've have been and will continue to be so as to be completely ineffective.

This is so incredible, cruel, sick and just plain greedy…and it’s our Labor Department proposing this.

Who will we be able to complain to?

5. Isn't the talking point something about how it 'opens choices'?
Or am I thinking of a different bill? I remember hearing some Wingnut saying how this is like the second greatest thing since sliced bread (the first of course being a tax cut :eyes: ) because companies will just give them 'extra time off later'. Not quite sure how that makes 'choices'.

It's complete bullshit...who will be able to take time off when a huge chunck of their pay is GONE!

This will affect nursing (health care) more than one can imagine...doctors don't give a shit, nor do health insurance, HMO's...slave labor, they love it...bigger profits, fuck the patients.

It won't ever affect me personally, I'm a self employed contractor, but I still do care.

Don't get me wrong, no one wants to see Bush lose more than I do...

But, all my employees (and I mean every single one!) consistently ask me if they could go to a 12 hour shift schedule (36 hours a week); working 3 shifts a week and then picking up a 4th shift every 4th week (48 hours a week) so that their hours average out to just about 40 a week. I tell them I can't do it because I'd be required to pay them for 8 hours of overtime in that 4th week; which I can't afford. They insist they doin't care about the overtime, they just want a schedule that gives them maximum days off without having to loose hours. But the law is the law and I just can't schedule their work the way they'd like me to because of it.

And don't tell me I'm a bloated plutocrat who should gladly pay the overtime. I already feel guilty enough about being an employer, but the fact is I am already the lowest paid guy in the shop.

I wish there was some happy medium in the law as it is currently written, but there doesn't seem to be...

For a 3 day work week I'd be willing to work 8 hours above a 40 hour week at straight time every 4th. I think a lot of people would. What possible motive could I have for making this up?

9. Yes you can
You just make sure that 48 hours laps over into two different pay periods. My daughter's work does this all the time. On purpose to avoid overtime, but they still do it. So glad I could help your employees out!

15. Thanks for the suggestion
But I'm not sure I follow. What the people want is the maximum number of days off they can get without having to lose hours in the long run. Its a 24/7 shop with a 2 week pay period and I can't figure out how to give a person that extra 12 hour shift every 4th week without creating an overtime situation for that pay period. In other words they want to work 72 hours in one pay period and 84 in the next. I guess that might let me get away with only paying 4 hours of OT per employee every other pay period... Still, not to sound greedy, but I already pay myself less than I pay any employee I not sure I can afford to even pay that much OT. Something I need to think about a little more a suppose.

On the other hand, I guess I create a unique pay period for each employee that split the extra shift... - Arrrrrggggghhhhh my head is starting to hurt! Anyway, thanks for the suggestion!

Sorry spelling is not my strong point. But why the hostility? I do all I can to accomdidate what employees want and stay within the bounds of the law. If that makes me "full of crap" then I'm guilty as charged.

I wish they would expand the overtime rules. I'm in what is considered a "professional" position, and am therefore not eligible for overtime, even though I've had more than my share of 60, 70 and 80 hour work weeks (often including working Saturday and/or Sunday) over the years working for large Fortune 100 corporations. In my previous job, they had a whole system worked out where they would order dinner for employees every night of the week because we'd often be there so late at night.

The thing is, except for the first year or two out of college, I have always not been eligible for overtime.
