Kerry's debate suggestion about religious summit and why Dean can't win

In the debate Kerry had a brilliant suggestion about holding religious summits with top religious leaders in the world. Clark talks about how modern wars aren't going to be between states anymore but ideologies and religions and how idiot Bush* doesn't understand this and thinks we can reduce terror by fighting states.

KERRY AND CLARK can make a suggestion like holding religious summits with the pope and dalai lama and other leaders and the voters will think it is brilliant and they have vision.........but if Dean said it he would have been slammed as a FLAKY NORTHEAST PEACENIK and voters would agree.

THAT is why people say Dean can't win.

they can say it and getaway with it because they aren't the front runners. And yes, it is an excellent idea. Had they been the perceived frontrunners, rest assured the GOP would have found a way to attack it.

Dean has already proposed touring the world if he is the President- elect on a goodwill mission to restore relations Shrubco has destroyed - which I also think is a good idea.

If Dean were a Kumbaya-singing, flower-throwing, peace-love-dove type of guy, your point would have some merit. But he just isn't, and the RW machine will be utterly unsuccessful at painting him as such IMHO.

Dean isn't ANTI WAR but he is always called the ANTI WAR candidate and to most people anti war spells peacenick. They will talk about his deferment and ASPEN and he will look like a foreign policy lightweight.

Disagree that the RW machine will be utterly unsuccessful. They ARE GOING TO make the election about terrorism and they have the money for it. Bush is going to be wearing military uniforms. He would look IDIOTIC next to a war vet but not against someone they can paint as draft dodging skier. Fact is, the American public is starting to smell a rat in Iraq, and it isn't Saddam. I honestly don't think that Rove/God/Whoever is going to be able to get the stink off of this war.

And BTW, the reports of a booming economy are not only premature, many of them border on falsehood. The people spinning the glimmers of good news on that front are banking on a continuing/accelerating improvement that is likely to not happen at all. Writing the economy off as an issue would be seriously dumb.

32. I agree that today, post-9/11, a lot of people will prefer someone

with military experience. That may be unfair, but I think it's a reality.

I think it will be a campaign issue, that Bush will tout his military leadership as a reason to vote for him and if the Democratic candidate has no military experience, he has less credence on that issue.

This works against my candidate, too, of course, as he was not able to serve due to a heart murmur.

How much effect will it have? Who knows?
