Kerry's debate suggestion about religious summit and why Dean can't win
Edited on Thu Dec-11-03 12:40 PM by MIMStigator
In the debate Kerry had a brilliant suggestion about holding religious summits with top religious leaders in the world. Clark talks about how modern wars aren't going to be between states anymore but ideologies and religions and how idiot Bush* doesn't understand this and thinks we can reduce terror by fighting states.

KERRY AND CLARK can make a suggestion like holding religious summits with the pope and dalai lama and other leaders and the voters will think it is brilliant and they have vision.........but if Dean said it he would have been slammed as a FLAKY NORTHEAST PEACENIK and voters would agree.

THAT is why people say Dean can't win.

5. I can make it simple
Clark and Kerry can say things Dean can't say and they can be more liberal in office because they are war heros and less partisan

14. Kerry was Dukakis' Lt Gov
HE can't say shit. And Clark just isn't as liberal as you think (I think there should be an ammendment against burning the flag...).

And that doesn't excuse the nonsensicle ramblings in your original post...

17. Dean says laws should protect the flag
what's the difference? Guess being punished for flag burning because of amendment is worse than being punished because of a law. talk about nonsensical

10. logic is........
"only killers are allowed or qualified to be leaders?"

No but * is going to spend millions of dollars scaring voters again and they will want someone they think can protect them AND they will think * is better at doing it thatn Dean because * is a killer. A veteran will remove that advantage.

Not saying it's right, saying it IS.

8. Wrong
they can say it and getaway with it because they aren't the front runners. And yes, it is an excellent idea. Had they been the perceived frontrunners, rest assured the GOP would have found a way to attack it.

Dean has already proposed touring the world if he is the President- elect on a goodwill mission to restore relations Shrubco has destroyed - which I also think is a good idea.

Edited on Thu Dec-11-03 12:56 PM by dave29
and Dean has plenty of that. Dean will fight back on any baseless charge against him. Part of why I am a huge supporter. I don't think the GOP would be able to make your charge stick to any of our candidates in fact.

edit to change "nominees" to "candidates"

oops. I do kind of wish we could nominate all of them :)

25. while I would ..
... prefer to POOP on this thread, I'm going to offer a serious rebuttal to your point, which I do understand.

If Dean were a Kumbaya-singing, flower-throwing, peace-love-dove type of guy, your point would have some merit. But he just isn't, and the RW machine will be utterly unsuccessful at painting him as such IMHO.

29. Agree Dean isn't peacenik but he will be after Rove campaign.
Dean isn't ANTI WAR but he is always called the ANTI WAR candidate and to most people anti war spells peacenick. They will talk about his deferment and ASPEN and he will look like a foreign policy lightweight.

Disagree that the RW machine will be utterly unsuccessful. They ARE GOING TO make the election about terrorism and they have the money for it. Bush is going to be wearing military uniforms. He would look IDIOTIC next to a war vet but not against someone they can paint as draft dodging skier. Those people who decide who to vote for in the last days are going to go in the booth and figure the economy isn't THAT bad and I want big government daddy to protect me from terrorists. They will not see Dean as big strong daddy when Rove gets through.

33. I disagree...
... and we'll just have to wait and see.

Fact is, the American public is starting to smell a rat in Iraq, and it isn't Saddam. I honestly don't think that Rove/God/Whoever is going to be able to get the stink off of this war.

And BTW, the reports of a booming economy are not only premature, many of them border on falsehood. The people spinning the glimmers of good news on that front are banking on a continuing/accelerating improvement that is likely to not happen at all. Writing the economy off as an issue would be seriously dumb.

but it pains me to even write something that appears to be only for the purpose of trying to help repubs.

Ted Kennedy pal war hero who tossed medals = flake

Clinton military relic war hero who couldn't keep his job = flake

*Anybody* can be run down by the right wing ideologues. And the dem candidate will be.

Just saying it will be harder than painting Dean as anti war flake.

Even the stupidest voter thinks war hero or general = anti war peacenik, DOES NOT COMPUTE

32. I agree that today, post-9/11, a lot of people will prefer someone

with military experience. That may be unfair, but I think it's a reality.

I think it will be a campaign issue, that Bush will tout his military leadership as a reason to vote for him and if the Democratic candidate has no military experience, he has less credence on that issue.

This works against my candidate, too, of course, as he was not able to serve due to a heart murmur.

How much effect will it have? Who knows?

Edited on Thu Dec-11-03 01:43 PM by Q
...if we don't run a 'war hero' candidate? Clinton wasn't exactly a war hero and he won twice.

- It seems that too many of you are falling for the RWing talking points about the military. We don't have to put up with this crap...and have plenty of ammunition to use against AWOL George* if they try to make it an issue.

- And Bush* HAS NO military leadership experience beyond his screwup in the middle east and his illegal, aggressive war against Iraq. Even many conservatives hate his foreign policy.

37. If you agree with this , you are buying a sucker line
hook line and sinker. The country is NO more dangerous "post 9-11" than it was "pre 9-11". To imagine this threat is to buy the line that we must spend seven times the money than the next closest "threat" does on defense at the expense of our society.

Can't you see you're being snookered?

36. Do you ever post anything except Dean can't win threads?
Is there anything else remotely outrageous or unjust in your part of the world, or is everything just perfect , with the notable exception that Howard Dean is just too popular for your liking?

If that were the only all consuming issue in MY life, say similarly "Clark can't win" I would feel pretty happy with the status quo.

Is that it?
