Teflon Dean The Mean Machine......Nothing Sticks....
IS THERE ANY THING THAT WOULD CAUSE YOU TO JUSTIFY LYING TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?

They're after him....mark my words, they're after him.

3. It was a question given to Dean....WHY???
Hell, I'm trying to figure it out too. Why did they throw that one at him? Do they have something or are they fishing? Either way I think now they're really after him.

4. It's only the beginning. I hope the winner of this nomination has a
tough as nails campaign staff. He'll need it.

You're the frontrunner.

7. It reminded me a little of the Dukakis "if someone raped...
...and killed your wife, would you support the death penalty" question posed by Bernard Shaw.

Dean handled it pretty well. In fact, I think he did a nice job tonight (and I'm a Clark supporter).

12. I remember that...
and when Dukakis didn't passionately reply that Shaw was out of line, I knew he didn't stand a chance.

9. "Yes, I would be justified in lying about my real opinion of *"
But of course, he can't say that, can he? None of us can, not really. We're all constrained by Big Brother watching and listening.

"IS THERE ANY THING THAT WOULD CAUSE YOU TO JUSTIFY LYING TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?"

Shouldn't they be saving this question for * when he debates the Dem candidate? (Which he won't, because he's a weasel.)

10. The answer is:
I would never lie to the American people who demand and need open government.

National security classified documents and sensitive matters of state that must stay within the realm of the trusted few is accepted by all Americans for security reasons.

But lying, openly stating false information to our citizens, is no way to build trust and to govern in a society where the government derives its legitimacy from the governed.

So the answer is never.

11. I thought Koppel was setting up Dean for his 911 remarks.
Dean handled the question well, I thought. Seemed like a Republican attack question to me.

The difference with Bush and 911, I suspect, is that lives are probably not being protected by witholding information. More likely it is to save Bush's presidency. How to prove that? I say keep chipping away at 911.

14. yep
i was really really hoping dean would say something like that in his response. something like..
how bush isnt withholding information to save american lives, instead he is merely covering up for his own failings.

instead
he gave a short, stuttered, 20 second, lame answer.
(didnt even use up the last of his 1.5 minutes)

thats why he bombed on the question, imo.
