Has Norman Schwarzkopf even poked his head out since the war?

Seems I remember him coming out in favor of the invasion. But that was before the invasion.

He's been awfully quiet.........

He is very traditional, and I will assume that he learned the lesson well that if you didn't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all.

1. It seems like he was not much excited about an invasion of Iraq.
Just before the invasion began, I seem to remember that he was very dubious about it. Said something like, it would take far more men and supplies than were being planned on.

Gee, what a silly idea! Where did he get that???? :-)

2. He and Forty Other Generals
The high ranking military opposed Rumsfeld's plan for the war. They remember that the battlefield successes of Vietnam were followed by an inability to figure out what comes next. Anything as dramatic as the political change called for in Iraq requires a massive military presence. Rumsfeld overruled them, saying that a "small footprint" was sufficient.

He's not admitting he's wrong.

4. Has anybody considered the precedent set by him and
Colin "I've been around so many white people so long that I've become white thru osmosis" Powell? If you are at the top of the military leadership and a war "happens" on your watch you get to become a TV celebrity and cash in on tens of millions thru book deals and speechs. No war and you get your $100K pension(tops) and have to go to work 9 to 5 for 1 of the war machine's suppliers for a mere fraction of that money and virtually none of the fame. Get a non-military person to name you the 5 Joint Chiefs before Powell and watch the blank stare. Powell and Schwarzkopf both profited to the tune of at least $30 million each following the 1st Gulf Slaughter. The decision seems easy enough, certain victory and certain wealth could lead to a conflict of interest IMO. BTW, I served 6 years (active) and almost made a career of it so I'm hardly the military basher type. Watch for Franks', etc. memoirs coming to a book store/speech tour near you. Soon.
