Trying to "google bomb" that Dean is the GOP Choice? Oh, no.

Please. Not that. Am I reading this right?

Ran across it trying to find the source of the GOP loving Dean idea.

Here is what it takes to google bomb:
http://www.newsday.com/business/ny-bzgoog1206,0,2339508.story?coll=ny-business-headlines

SNIP...."The latest Google bombing appears to have spread within a matter of weeks.

It apparently doesn't take much for Google to make the association. At least 826 pages link to the Bush bio but just 32 of those pages include the phrase "miserable failure," according to a Google search.

In previous pranks, tricksters have rigged Google to bring up spoof pages. For instance, after France refused to join the coalition forces fighting Iraq, a Google search for "French military victories" brought up a spoof page that said no documents were found and asked, "Did you mean 'french military defeats.'" END SNIP

1. I guess I could do that the other way
I don't bother and I don't think too much about this Republican meme thing. Only once, so far, it felt scary to me. When Charles Dean's body came home with honors, given that the military dead of the Irag war are being concealed, I felt the GOP was setting Howard Dean up for future fall. We'll see if that becomes a striking point if he wins the nomination. But a shiver went through me that day.

As far as Dean being the GOP choice, it's no secret here on DU that Clark supporters do not believe Dean can win the general, because they think the GOP can beat up on Dean fairly easily. I know Dean's supporters do not share this opinion. Karl Rove's cracking wise and Tucker Whathisname wearing a Dean pin and other RW pundits claiming that Dean is their dream candidate may mean something or nothing.

Now, Google-bombing I had to click through and read about what the hell it is. I don't know what's going on here, but I hope you will accept my apology as a Clark supporter. I like a fight as well as the next one, but I like a clean fight. Planting memes should be off the table on both sides.

4. I did not know that.
I really didn't. I just was stunned when I found it. What is a "trickster."?

7. My take is that they should play the pranks on GWB, not our own.
I hope you don't mean that is TBTM AmericanStranger on the blog I posted doing that. Does not sound like he would try to google bomb one of our own. I don't think he would.

You are referring to the miserable failure one, right?

8. I see some people are asking them not to do it. Thanks.
I love a good argument, but we should not attack our own that way.

9. It's not unheard of as a tactic...
Remember that the supporters of incumbent Democratic Governor of California, Davis, gave tens of millios of dollars to the most offensive right-wing opponent in the republican primaries,Simon. So they wouldn't have to face a centrist and popular Republican, Riordan. This is not fiction, this is FACT. In fact, the supporters of Davis bragged about how they screwed over the Repugs and squeaked by a win for the Governorship.

However, Dean has his own merits on his own record. So let us not forget that fact. The Repugs are just trying to stir discontent and have us destroy our own for them

10. Uh, it looks like this Cliff character is a flake or an agitator
And all the subsequent posters pretty much told him
to kiss off.

If nothing else the fact that he's spreading the lie
that Dean is "too far to the left" shows that he isn't
familiar with Dean's record as Gov. (And that isn't
meant as a slam on Dean, just a fact.)

11. Yes, I noticed that. The two posts that were deleted were the main ones.
I don't think it is really that widespread, but I will post things that I see on other blogs that are indicative. If any of us see something like on the Dean blog, we jump them just like that.

It does not hurt to call attention to it. It was the other two posts that were really into the google bomb thing, and they were right to delete them.

This thing of saying the GOP wants Dean has played out now, I hope.
