Tim Russert (10 pm et) Heads Up Deanies CNBC (DUPE)
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 10:17 PM by khephra
Tim has two campaign reporters on, and they're both very supportive of Dean's chances. One of them is Shapiro who wrote "One-Car Caravan: On the Road with the 2004 Democrats Before America Tunes In", which is the first book on the 2004 campaign.

2. They're still talking about Dean off and on
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 10:16 PM by khephra
Both of the reporters think that Dean has the best chance to win the primary. Shapiro covered Dean when it was pretty much a two person operation, and he's most impressed with how far Dean has come.

I think I'm going to have to pick up "One-Car Caravan".

Boosting Dean by Burying Him

Deborah Orin is buying my theory that the recent criticism of Howard Dean by prominent Republicans is a move to boost Dean's stature:
"It's very smart - every time they pick fights with Dean, it just serves to elevate him in the Democratic race," says a Republican strategist. "It's good for both of them. Both sides want a Dean-Bush race."

Why? Because polls suggest Dean would be pretty close to the weakest Dem against Bush and he offers the sharpest contrast in ideology and personal style.

So this week Republican National Committee chairman Ed Gillespie went to Dean's home state of Vermont to zing him, then did it again last night in politically potent New Hampshire - and he hit Dean harder than any other Dem has.

Republicans are trying to cleverly take advantage of the surprise dynamic of the race - attacking Dean just reinforces his support. And since Dean fans hate, hate, hate Bush, they love Dean even more when Bush allies attack him.
As I've suggested, if Dean's momentum in Iowa and New Hampshire begins to stall, President Bush should himself consider saying a few negative things about Dean.

6. So basicly no matter that the press does it is helping Dean
When they gave him what was considered favorable coverage it was to build Dean up. Now they criticise him and it is to build him up. Must be nice to have a conspiracy theory to explain any contigiency.

8. Conspiracy theory?? but this is what the political establishment is
openly admitting. They don't do conspiracy theories.

7. "Sigh" Frenchie4Clark, I think ...
.. you and Slinkerwink should just lock yourself in a thread and go at it.

Shapiro has been very supportive of Dean, I think he spent a lot of time with Dean earlier in the campaign. If you cannot pick up the book, his old columns are archived at the USA Today site. There should be quite of few discussing Dean.

11. Shapiro says the Dean-McGovern comparison is implausible
Edited on Sat Dec-06-03 10:46 PM by pruner
for one thing, Dean's pretty conservative.

he also says the country & the party are differently divided than they were in 72.

Shapiro also said Dean's is the most interesting campaign he's ever seen/covered.
