He looked like a six-year-old boy who had just been told that there is no tooth fairy.

A lot of wingnuts consider themselves above ideology and think their views are moderate or fair. I know, because I have a freeper relative (don't we all?), and he fancies himself "independent" and sees people like O'Reilly as being "fair" (yes, folks, freeps are dumb enough to buy into the "fair and balanced" schtick). He probably thinks Hannity is too, who knows...

That's part of how they are successful, is that they play to the conceit of wingnuts who don't think of themselves as conservatives or right-wingers. They get someone to validate their views on a televised forum, dressed up as "fair and balanced", and voila! Propaganda wins.

Hannity knows what he is doing - he sells himself as a "middle guy" so that Joe Dumbass watching Faux thinks "hey! that's me!" Once conservative views are successfully perceived as "mainstream" and "moderate", their agenda prevails. It is already happening.
