http://msnbc.com/news/944302.asp?0cv=CA01

We are officialy viewed as barbarians by the rest of the world.

I believe this to be an official lowpoint in our history. I understand that these two guys were terrible people. They deserved to die. But allowing video like this to be broadcast to the world is a horrible point in American history. We are now seen as bloodthirsty people.

The sad thing, when I travel, is that President Bush may as well just paing a target on my back. We are now officialy marked as morally reprehensable.

1. Well...
"deserved to die"

You're probably right. From all the accusations being bandied about, they were right bastards, and that's one of their good points. Still, I'd rather a court of Iraqi law had determined whether they deserved to die or not.

3. Welcome to the.....................
Christian right. God wants us to show those pictures so the rest of the world will see how we smite those non-believers. :caveat: I'm not knocking religion, just the christian right's version of it. Don't start a flame war.

4. What's worse is that the media actually blame Middle Eastern culture.
Edited on Fri Jul-25-03 08:30 PM by grendelsuncle
Have you heard this explanation? It was on what I used to consider a decent radio news program:

Well, we (the media and America) find this sort of thing questionable, maybe even objectionable. But those who live in a ME culture, well, they have different standards. This doesn't bother them as much. In fact, they need it.

Good God, they will even blame their penchant for the almighty dollar and our crassness in eating this crap up on ME culture. It is mind boggling.

I have yet to see the video. My wife stumbled upon it and suggested we keep the TV off for the next few days.

"Got the bubble-headed bleach-blonde who comes on at five;
she can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eyes."

6. Your wife is right. It is beyond anything I could have imagined
this country would come up with...let alone broadcast during prime news time.

I still cannot believe it and am reeling from the thought that it actually happened. It's like Nazi Germany or something.

9. It kind of reminds me of Thomas Jefferson's claims that
hardship ("troubles") isn't as hard on slaves (blacks) as it is on whites and they forget it "their troubles" sooner than white people do.

I feel so blessed to have the freedom that I have and I could just as easily be over there being occupied by the U.S, and in the dark and hungry and scared. The Bushes have occupied the whole world now essentially.

I read on another site a woman from England who travels alot saying that alot of Americans traveling abroad are saying that they are Canadian now just so they don't get hassled.

15. When I get to "travel abroad" it will be after bush is gone.
But if it were now I would proudly state; "I'm an American and I hate the bushwa". I bet I could have the best conversations over there!

5. BushCo is painting such an ugly picture of America
in the minds of people around the world.

But Karma will catch him this year. It's catching him now, and will really come to bear in Sept., Oct. and Nov.

I'd wager a dozen doughnuts on it -- but, Moral Authority Bill Bennett might chastize me (ooops, forgot, BB uses Republican Family Values as his moral compass, so gambling is just fine, as long as you don't have SEX with the SLOT, or doughnut as the case may be).

26. The Newtopia link goes back to Samuel Bush and the
first world war. It really has all of the info in one place about the four generations of the Bush mafia.

Now I know why the woman on C-span said today that "the Bushes have ruined this country." She didn't mean just the present, she meant for the last 100 years.

11. I know! Just because the bush cabal is the strongest Freakin'
Power on Earth...they think they can spend $$20million in bribery and then go blast the husseins to smithereens without bringing them up before international court. Wouldn't want that picture of donnyrummy shaking hands with their dad, going around the net, again.

the husseins have too much history with rummy & the bushes.

24. Thanks glarius. But the whole thing still looks like a twisted
Nazi experiment, and those photos came from the U.S. government. Most of us don't mind at all that those guys are dead, but good Lord, how horrible to manipulate the bodies that way and then broadcast it all over the world! How twisted and lunatic!

14. And the US got so ticked of when it showed American POWs
This seems little better. I don't feel much pity for the Hussein brothers, but it seems that human decency would tell you not to air to millions of people pictures of mangled bodies, no matter how evil the the bodies had once been.

16. "All Iraqis want to kill the Americans"
Frightning quote.

Thanks Bush.

Will Bush then pull a Truman and nuke Iraq in order to save its unflinching warlike people from themselves? If the Iraqis hate the Americans, and I can't exactly blame them, it might come to that. Damn Bush and his loathesome act of selfish vengeance against an unsubstantiated threat... and protecting the oil while leaving nuclear facilities unguarded!

CAPTAIN BUNNYPANTS HAS A SACK OF SHIT FOR WHERE HIS BRAIN IS SUPPOSED TO BE, UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That selfish idiot* will get us all killed.

Sigh. Time to see my shrink again, I need valium and time away from news sources. It just gets worse every day. I fear that the sheeple will elect him in 2004 as well... :scared:

As far as I can tell, there is no independent -- non-US, non-British -- confirmation that these people are who the US says they are.

Arabs and Iraqi's are use to this sort of thing because they have seen people hung in the market place, beheadings, etc. Sure they're just a bunch of savages right? <sarcasm>

I can't remember the pundits who said this I am suffering major depression and information overload.
