Backers say U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis of Tennessee to Endorse Clark
U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis has decided to endorse retired Gen. Wesley Clark for president, Davis supporters say, and will announce his backing in about a week.

Davis, a Pall Mall Democrat, would become the first Tennessee member of Congress to aid Clark, who already has announced support from three U.S. senators and 11 U.S. House members despite his late entry in September into the Democratic race.

(However)Davis spokesman Tom Hayden said the congressman is impressed with Clark's military and leadership background, but is not announcing yet whom he will endorse.

1. Isn't Davis really, really conservative?
Pro-life and all of that?

2. And that would mean...
the center to right of center, who have misgivings about * but won't go for a anybody labeled "liberal", would be encouraged to vote for a Dem, ergo helping to defeat His Lowness. And since we know Clark's social positions are pretty darned liberal (despite all Deanie spins to the contrary), I enthusiastically applaud Davis' endorsement. :D

3. Something like
"I am pro-Choice and that's that."

Didn't Clark say something vague and roundabout like that? :eyes:

4. He is definitely pro-choice.
Sheeple like to follow the leader. Now some sheeple may be vaguely sensing that they're being routed by, boss hog leader *, right into the slaughterhouse. An endorsement of Clark by another pro-choice, conservative leader, albeit a Democratic one, would give them an excuse to bail out on *, and save their own skins in the process.

7. Oh, sorry I didn't mean to imply you weren't!
I just get carried away sometimes and come across a little too strong. Last thing we Dems need to do is start bickering internally, although I know it's going on regarding the candidates :(.

5. This is the thing about Clark
It's not policies and positions that motivate voters, it's emotional identification, "character" and a sense of trust. Positions are important, but strictly secondary.

So the fact that Clark is quite liberal, position-wise, won't prevent him from pulling swing voters, centrists, disaffected Repubs and military voters. If they feel like he's likeable yet authoritative & disciplined, hard-headed yet humane--all that stuff--they'll vote for him even if he's going to lead in a more leftward direction.

Same trick the Flying Chimp has (inexplicably, to me) pulled off, but in reverse.

Not but what it's going to be an enormously hard slog, to borrow a phrase, for whichever DEM gets elected.

8. "Q" factor
On another thread the conversation about * photo op got down to the perception vs the reality of * actual record.

Who do we have on our side with pictures of themself marching through streets crowded with American-flag-waving liberated people and their flower bearing children? In fact the children can be seen to be hanging off the arm of this candidate. Photo op vs photo op plus the "Q" factor.

All patriot, no act.

9. Tenn. goes for Clark.
Color that one blue. Between this endorsement (and others to follow, not least of these Al Gore), the fact that Clark lived in Tenn. for over a year, and the fact that Tenn. and Arkansas are neighbors, Tenn. will surely go to Clark in the general election. Dean won't be able to carry Tenn. or Arkansas.

10. I live in TN. I think you're overlooking the fact that
a lot of people here have family members that have gone to Iraq. They want their loved ones home, and are afraid that a military guy wouldn't bring them home.

11. But, but, what if that military guy
has stated the US needs to give control over to the UN and Iraqis immediately? Isn't that basically what Clark's stated position is?

13. Yes, but not everyone delves more than an inch into what the candidates'
positions are. It'll be interesting to see how it all turns out.

in US history.
