what will the 'household' of the future resemble?
In the two-tier society that we are fast-tracking our way to, I see a future return of mainly multi-generational households, as well as a resurgence of co-ops and even communes. The traditional household that many, if not most of us grew up in may be a thing of the past- one breadwinner(by choice, not lack of them) supporting a family and paying the bills- even with a decidedly blue-collar job- when are we likely to see that scenario again? Has the "peak" of American Civilization passed...on our watch?

2. I'd prefer to see
something like the community Starhawk described in her book, "The Fifth Sacred Thing"... a sustainable, pluralistic, multicultural society.

3. Close to this.

Real estate is getting so outrageously overpriced that the small family home is out of reach for many workers. Keeping people poor only encourages property to be in the hands of landlords and the majority of people having to rent, which means they will be force to piss away their money in rent with no property investment being built up.

4. It will look just like this

I think that household structure follows economics. Petroleum civilization only has a short time left in it. We as a species have done a poor job of planning for what comes after, so I think it's going to be a very bumpy ride before a 'new fueled' civilization gets it's act together.

Given that, we're likely to see household groupings larger than 'traditional' families become more common among the lower class (all of us either now or in the future, unless George Soros happens to be reading this -- All of us but you, George...).

The upper class will undoubtedly become even more inbred than it already is.

5. Upstairs - Downstairs. You'll either have servants or be one.
That's it.

Economic feudalism in an American Patriotic form. Or something like that.
