Wellstone mental health parity bill gets the go-ahead! Thanks DUers!
I just got this in an email from the Wellstone Action group:

With your help, Wellstone Action put the issue of insurance discrimination against people suffering from mental illness back on the federal agenda. Senate Majority Leader Frist, along with Senators Domenici, Kennedy, Daschle and Gregg, have agreed that the mental health parity bill will be the first order of business in 2004.

Your efforts made the difference. Wellstone Action generated over 23,500 faxes to House and Senate leadership, and to your individual representatives. In addition, we delivered more than 3,000 letters of support and countless phone calls to those same individuals.

In early November, David Wellstone made a visit to Washington and met with representatives of the White House, Senate and House leadership and several key legislators. David received assurances from several members that this issue is a priority for them, and that there will be action in 2004. For more information on David's trip to Washington follow the link below. http://www.wellstone.org/network/information.aspx?catID=88

Working with other mental health advocates around the country, we intend to be ready and well organized to pass the Paul Wellstone Mental Health Equitable Treatment Act in 2004. We know you will be with us as we carry on the fight for justice for those who suffer from mental illness.

Thank you for your support for this important cause that continues the proud progressive legacy of Paul Wellstone.

Jeff, Pam, Fawn, Connie, Jessica and Anne

Wellstone Action!
