2. A bit ridiculous
I love the American cover--totally understated

This looks like a B movie poster

4. Subtle
You can't imagine what they're trying to say with this cover? Man, that IS subtle!! I think the individuals are depicted quite flatteringly. The nightmarish quality of this administration is captured with Pythonesque wit.

5. WEF...
That cover is from the WEF protest in New York in February, 2002. I recognize it because I was there.

A week before the conference, the New York Daily News had a picture of some masked person on the cover and an editorial about how New Yorkers 5 months after 9/11 would not put up with people blocking intersections or whatever. Well, these transnational groups (WEF, IMF, WTO etc.) always are protested, and the WEF was brought to New York BECAUSE of 9/11 - it was going to be in Davos prior to 9/11. So they decide to bring a divisive event to New York five months after 9/11 because of 9/11, then accuse people against it of being the divisive ones in a time they shouldn't be.

This was the first protest I ever went to. A combination of the recession/downturn/"jobless recovery", then in it's infancy, along with 9/11 making things seem more urgent afterwards brought me out.

Speaking of New York protests, I remember the February 15th anti-war protest (which I slept through). On corporate TV they kept saying how much this march was costing the city, how much this was costing the city (which was having financial troubles, like the rest of the country). What I was wondering was - how much was this WAR, which had not started yet, going to cost the city? That was never mentioned. Well, we got the first $87 billion bill and I'm sure there will be a lot more bills like that in the future.
