2. Clark did a great job...
Handed the Faux News guy his own ass in a bucket. The guy was so flummoxed that he was apoligizing even before the end of the interview...

As Begala and Carville would say, 'Attack, Attack, Attack!'

If only he had been face to face...maybe he would have decked the guy....

Love how the Fox guy prefaced the "sideshow" quote with "here's another mistake you made"...the nerve!!! But Wes slammed him in a second...every candidate should use this as a guide.

Big difference. And, I agree, a defining moment in Clark's campaign. He could be the one.

21. Big difference regarding anger in this instance. . .
. . .Clark is a highly decorated veteran who was wounded in Vietnam, when you attack his patriotism and support of the troops he is justified in his anger. . .think about it.

26. Generals are not gods in my book
and I find it repulsive that the "Left" is poisoned with the mindless nationalistic memes and patriotic jingoism that swept this fox news dumbed-down country into a fear frnzied war fever.

And look what it has fucking wrought.

Now you want to tell me why I should adopt the mindset that rhaposidizes about generals with their military tactics, who got us into this mess to begin with? Because it sure wasn't the churches, and if I need a hero, I look to some brave monk who died defending peasants in El Salvadore or a nun in the US who went to prison for damaging some of precious US war toys.

I will never salute to what your general stands for.

Otherwise, Not according to the New Yorker, but than that is a filthy wing-nut rag. And it seems to me the ol' general did his bit in coaching this whole Iraqi thing along, perhaps noting tactical differences as his preferred mode of attack, at most.

Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 02:23 PM by returnable
Or that you should "rhaposidize" about about generals or "salute" what Clark stands for?

Wndycty just said Clark's military background makes him particularly sensitive to the kinds of charges that the FOX clown was making, ie that Clark doesn't support the troops.

Nothing more, nothing less. No need to blow a gasket.

On edit: I'm already bracing for you to call me a bully boy. So have at it.

justifies his anger while Dean's anger about the path that Bush has led us down, with Sir Clark and other acquiescent Dems tripping along behind, is out of line? Hmmmm

43. "tripping along behind"
I'm not even going to bother arguing with you about Clark's opposition to the Iraq War. We'll have to agree to disagree.

As for Clark's military background justifying his anger, in this case, yes it does.

Take the blinders off for a second and think about what's being discussed here:

Some blowhard FOX News puppet accused Clark, a career military man, of not supporting the troops.

Of course that kind of charge is gonna resonate a little deeper for Clark.

This isn't about Clark blowing his stack because someone called him out on flip-flopping about NAFTA.

Geez.

I mean, shoot, if someone accused Dean, a physician, of not caring about patient care, I'd expect him to be bit indignant too.

But why do you always have to make a discussion about Clark a discussion about Dean?

Is it because you're a tad insecure about your own candidate's credibility? You've indicated in the past that Dean is your last compromise.

That's hardly a ringing endorsement.

50. Because the "anger" meme was used to attack Dean
from the Clark camp until they became so impressed with their own candidate's display of anger. I didn't make it about Dean. And I think Dean's cause for anger--or any of our causes for anger is just as valid, if not more so, and not to be dismissed as "free-floating" as it was earlier in the thread---which started all this.

51. And you keep forgetting the difference. . .
. . .there is the anger for anger's sake and there is the reaction to a personal attack. Clark was reacting to a personal attack, had Dean done the same thing it would have been appropriate as well. . .at least in my book.

34. I think many here
Share your disgust with the march to war and cheerleading mega-corp news channels. But consider, that while Clark favored international attention on Iraq to limit spread of WMD and using the threat of force as leverage, he went to Congress to try and stop this march to war back in Sept. '02.

The folks at the clark blog can provide links to information that may be helpful.

45. I remember too...
Yes I remember Deans position and I admire him for taking it. I have never said anything negative about Dean, but there are things I like about Clark more...

Clark was branded the anti-war candidate right from the start of his campaign. He had been speaking out against it all summer on the talk shows. The part that tends to get confused in the press is that he made tactical assesments of the action once it got started (he was a CNN commentator), and lets face it he was happy the troops performed well (It could have been worse in casualties etc).

War is awful, and I know Clark feels this way too. He believes in spreading American values about democracy through diplomacy, and working with the international community. War is a last resort according to Clark.

Here is a link to a video where Clark talks very personnally about the Bosnia/Kosova situation. This is where he stuck his neck out to use military force in order to save people from the attrocities that were occuring. It probably cost him his job.

any anger is an indication of a hot headed control freak who is losing it.

We don't need someone who is so angry in the white house, remember? People don't like anger, remember?

Guess that Clark's supporters' standards change as often as Clark's script.

14. CMG, that's my take as well, and I expressed
it a couple of days ago on a thread about the rally in Iowa.

Clark's anger was pinpointed against attempted slander and he had every right to go after the "reporter." He really indicted him and the entire FOX news organization.

My one hesitation about Dean is his overall temperament and the sometimes glib comments that provide lots of fuel for the opposition. I can live with changed positions (Clark has them, too and I'm sure all candidates do...including BUSH, LOL!)...but Clark's depth is unfolding as time goes on. And I like that.

And his ability to smack down crap directly and forcefully at the appropriate time is also a huge plus. It is very effective when used sparingly.

While I would vote for Dean with no problem in the general, I have to admit that I am starting to lean toward Clark.
Maybe it's like a pendulum swinging....A year ago I was a Kerry fan, then flirted with Dean. Clark seems to combine many qualities of both.

However, I'm still not committed totally and will be watching for more as the season unfolds.

17. Dean's "anger" is what the Right uses against him -
and are you telling me that we don't have good reason to be angry? Isn't that we wanted all along---someone to stand up and represent us and recognize and share our anger? Look at how angry the rest of the world is at us. Look at thread after thread on this site, angry at Bush, angry at our elected representitives who jockeyed to stand shoulder to shoulder with Bush. Damn straight we are angry and we have been since 2000, if not before. How can there be any hope with politicians who only play nice with the likes of Bush? The anger is not occuring in a void.

As for Dean--ANY candidate that the rest of the pack is trying to target is going to be pelted. Do you really think Clark would get off any easier?

The Faux thug tried to change the context and meaning of Clark's remarks and use them to demean him. It constituted an underhanded lie. I'm glad Clark hammered him on it. Too often they get away with it. I'll bet Faux had that all planned out in advance, the context switch and all. Scumbags.

recently i mentioned here that clark has to show his anger, perhaps bang his fist on the lecturn, what he did yesterday is a start but unless he continues to give voice the frustration most of us have for bushevik policies, it doesn't matter if he is right or not.

repeat the mantra....."BUSH IS WRONG FOR AMERICA"

46. They're probably cramming
They're probably all poring over the MTP and Fox videos, trying to figure a new way to handle Clark. It's obvious that the media is interlinked and that these appearances affect future ones. For instance, the MTP appearance was directly referenced in the FOX interview and led to FOX getting slapped by the General. It will be interesting to see what effect these two interviews will have on the 60mins II and Letterman spots later this week.
