Our military is yet again helping make the US look good <sarcasm>

Seems some Marine raped a Japanese girl. The few, the proud, the jarheads...

I'm sick of hearing and seeing our military soldiers acting like the biggest assholes on the planet whenever they step off base. At ECU, all of the bars and clubs ended up requiring that patrons use membership cards to get in because of the military. The locals would get harassed by the military asses who'd just roll into town, get drunk, start fights, and then leave before anything would happen to them.

And did anyone hear Howard Stern this morning at about 6:15 am? He was trashing Kate Hudson for being embarrased at the americans that visit France. I don't want to go into it, but Howard (who is the only person that the right listens to who will actually lean to the left on some issues) was a total ass who doesn't know a thing about how american tourists act in Europe.

I just got back from europe, and I totally agree with Kate for saying that we're primarily FAT, LOUD, and OBNOXIOUS. We don't respect their culture at all.

1. The ugly American in Europe is overstated
There are idiots on both sides of the pond, ever encountered a Dutch football mob, German neo-nazi's?

4. It isn't that overstated.
I lived in Europe for 4 years. We are pretty embarassing. I know taht most of the people who visit Europe are respectful and decent. Unfortunately it's the loud and stupid ones that get seen, which is kinda the point really.

Of course we are pretty stupid and embarassing in our own country too. We travel to Europe and expect everyone to speak English. When they come here? Well, we expect them to speak perfect English.

6. Well done.
Merely find the lowest standard of behavior, construct a straw man, and provide rhetorical cover for the detestible behavior of those wearing the uniform of our country. :eyes:

2. That's why I travel off-season
Honestly, I can't stand being around most other American tourists. They go on vacation and complain about the service and how it's "Not like Home" WELL THEN GO BACK TO AMERICA and let the rest of join America.

I learned this at a very young age. My high school select singing choir took a trip to Mexico. One of the girls who I was friends with had her parent as Chaperones. The entire trip they bitched about the food, bitched about the accomadations and most importantly, bitched about any poverty that they saw. I remember stopping by a roadsign stand where the people would let you hold iguanas if you gave them a few dollars (and were also selling cold beverages). This family stayed on the bus and turned their backs towards the windows. The closest they came to smiling was when we finally change dining plans to stop by a restaurant that served burgers. They were happy for a moment until they bitched it "Wasn't as good as McDonalds". When they got home they swore they would stick to vacationing in their RV where they had their comforts of home including their TV.

Today, I like to find destinations that are American Tourist traps, my last trip being Costa Rica and the next one I'm considering Chile or Peru (although lately it's not been that safe). Even then, I like going off-season so there are even less Americans. When we were in Costa Rica we made friends with people from Germany, Netherlands and Belgium who were also staying at our hotel!

Americans are the worst tourists out there! I'm American and even I'll admit to that one!

5. How could you say that?
I certainly don't purposely get wasted drunk, start fights, etc. When I visit a foreign country, I don't expect them to doing things the way I've been accustomed. It's THEIR country and culture, and I respect that. Your argument doesn't make sense.

Many military and civilian americans don't respect other nations. That's quite an understatement.

Don't get me wrong, I know plenty of great people in the military. I work for a government defense contractor and deal with great military people everyday. I don't have a problem with a single one of them. But it's the young cocky kids that get shipped overseas and embarass us.

I went to college in Newport News, Virginia. Really close to Norfolk and all of the military in the area. Believe me, I've had my fill of the young, loud, obnoxious ones.
