Anyone know if there was touch screen voting in Louisiana?
And if so where? Were their snags? How much did it hurt us there?

3. Any news as to its impact.
What would the spread have been without it?

It was pretty healthy with it.

4. We'll never know what kind of effect BBV had, just the end result
"The Democrat, who was clearly the aggressor in the waning days of the campaign, scored big in her Acadiana base -- Blanco is from Lafayette -- as well as Democrat-rich New Orleans, including a 2-to-1 vote margin in Orleans Parish.

Oliver Thomas, president of the New Orleans City Council, said a combination of higher-than-expected turnout in New Orleans -- possibly 60 percent -- and late gains from previously undecided voters helped pave Blanco's win.

Jindal carried East Baton Rouge Parish. He also carried Republican-leaning parishes that serve as bedroom communities in the New Orleans area, including Jefferson and St. Tammany, but without the margins needed to win the race. The candidates were almost even in Caddo Parish, which includes Shreveport."

expected where there is touch screen voting? I don't know my LA geography.

11. Doesn't look like the machines were rigged.
Its about what you see parish by parish for repub/Dem contests. The split looks about normal.

6. The issue is audited voting, not touch screen voting
Whether optical scan or touch screen, if no one compares voter-verified paper ballots against the electronic voting machine tally, the votes can be rigged or incorrectly programmed.

This is a common misunderstanding -- however, the three security problems mentioned in Chapter 11 of Black Box Voting, as it turns out, were all with optical scans -- one of which helped George Bush take office.

That being said, Louisiana was one of the first places touch screens were used. There was a huge scandal with Sequoia, and a Louisiana official was convicted, bribery or bid-rigging I think; Phil Foster, who is still with Sequoia, was indicted but not convicted and Foster's brother-in-law was also indicted I believe.

Then parts of Louisiana got ES&S, which malfunctioned so badly they have reportedly decided to junk them.

Hmm. That leaves Diebold and Hart Intercivic, doesn't it. Which one of those two concentrates on statewide buys?

Bingo. Diebold.

7. You are doing a fantastic job Bev.
Yesterday I went to Google and searched "News" for Diebold and 10 or more pages came up. It is still a hot issue, you may get them yet.

If I understand your post correctly, there was no BBV issue in yesterday's election. Right?

12. The "BBV" issues take a few days to appear
Another misconception, fed by voting company press releases:

"The election went smoothly."

Problems are caught during the auditing phases (such as we have, now that they don't let us compare paper against machine). You see them when reports filter in about statistical anomalies, or a different number of votes than voters, or oddball last-minute changes in the vote. Absentee votes are another area ripe for abuse. I always cringe when I see people say "I'll just vote absentee."

Remember, absentee votes are counted by optical scan machines, and those use the hackable GEMS (or something similar).

We ain't outta the woods, not by a long shot.
