Gore's Speech Marks Beginning of For. & Dom. Policy Onslaught
I think Gore's speech is the beginning of a massive attack by the Democrats against Bush's failed foreign and domestic security policies. While before it seemed that the economy was going to be Bush's weak point, and foreign policy his stronghold (although I never really believed that), it seems that the roles of those issues could be reversing (of course, the jury is still out on the economy). Foreign policy and domestic security are going to become the main talking points of the Democratic Party from now until the election. And I think the Democrats are really taking the gloves off, too. We're going to see some unbelievably nasty words coming out against Bush (nothing we haven't seen already at DU, though).

As a loyal supporter of Howard Dean, I hate to say this, but- if this is the case, I think I may have to change my support over to Clark. I would still love to see a ticket with both Clark and Dean, but I do believe that Clark is much stronger in the foreign policy arena- Dean was stronger in the domestic arena.

What do you all think?

1. they should take off the gloves
they should pound away and away with the same message..lies, lies, lies.all the candidates should be consistent on this and at the same time offer their solutions to save lives in Iraq and get out of the mess.
I think Clark/Dean ticket or Dean/Clark would be unbeatable.

2. I really think they are- they're going to be getting really aggressive.
Gore's speech was the strongest attack against the Bushees that I've seen yet. He did everything but use the "F" word- fascist.

3. I think it will be the talking point for a number of months
but I think Dems cannot win if they then don't focus on Domestic issues like the jobs, environment, education, and health care. Then throw in the squandering of social security funds on crazy tax cuts.

If I could plan a perfect campaign, that is what I would try to do. Try to weaken and/or destroy the Republican advantage on national security and foreign policy. Then spend the rest of the campaign with positive statements about Dems' domestic policy agenda.

4. I think you're right.
But I'd actually try to obtain the advantage in national security/foreign policy, too....make use of the momentum and make the Repukes expend all their energy stopping it and trying to get back even with us.

I think we've got to be cutthroat...if we can make them look foolish in any area, we should do it. We have to humiliate them somewhere.

7. The problem with the economy,
is that if there is some kind of notable upsweap before elections, which is not only possible, but could probably be engineered, we end up in a jam. The fact is, that Bush is vulnerable on all fronts, and the proper way to bring him down is to expose the right fronts to the right people. For many people that means showing how, in a time that Bush has created a more dangerous world, he's not done what it takes to protect us.

5. It's Important to Remember
that the candidates offer a CLEAR alternative to Bush's policies, and not just attack, attack and attack. Crank up the criticism and offer clear choices for a better and safer America. A vision of a positve future and a platform to achieve it is the best way to get out the vote.

8. Well of course, but first and foremost
we have to tear down Bush's image of being a strong leader. That's the most important thing. We have to kill their morale, too- we have to be relentless.

6. I heard his speech and really liked it; however,
the item that media is talking about today is repealing the Patriot Act which I firmly believe we should. I may be crazy but I thought the part that would grab the headlines was when Gore said (maybe not in exact words) that September 11 could have been prevented. Did I mis-hear or what? Did anyone else hear it that way?

9. I think that was his implication
I'm not sure that he actually came out and said the words...I think he was using those points that he brought up as examples of why we don't need to be investigating the lives of average Americans- there are ways to be tipped off much more directly. But, yes, he was implying that they should have known, at least, and very possibly DID know beforehand.

10. Why does anyone think the economy has improved?
We get one quarter of a positive number and even the Democrats are giving the economy issue back to Bush?

This administration lies, lies, lies. Why should we believe what they say about GDP? The Democrats should not even begin to think that the economy is a plus for Bush, but should expose the GDP calculations as the fraud that they are.

Explosive growth in GDP in a economy that is shrinking its employment base is not a benefit to Americans, because it is reflecting the ever lower labor costs of corporations that have outsourced their manufacturing and service bases to cheap labor countries. The great gains in GDP mask the reality of ever more impoverished Americans as we become increasingly un and under employed.

This administration absolutely must be challenged on the bogus data and the interpretations they are putting out. It should be a central wedge issue of the campaign drive.

11. Well that's why I'm tentative about saying the
issues have shifted.

12. Gore's speech made me...
more proud and happy to be a Democrat. We're the only one's pointing out that each and every American's civil liberties are being taken away for the sake of false security.

As for the Dem. candidates, instead of bashing one-another, they need to go after Bush - tell America his lies, his lack of leadership, his cowardice, his lack of planning for the Iraqi war, the horrible economy, the list goes on.

Attack Bush, and attack him hard. Keep up the good fight everyone.

Mysterio.
