Another Copter Down, We Answer by Blowing Up a Field
Edited on Sat Nov-08-03 05:28 AM by sgr2
It has become so ridiculous in Iraq, that we can't tell who the enemy is.... so we blow up empty fields to show everyone that if we could figure out who the enemy is, we'd certainly blow them up. Huh?

They were showing the bombing on CNN, just explosions going off in an empty field.

TIKRIT, Iraq (CNN) -- Hours after six U.S. soldiers were killed when a Black Hawk helicopter was apparently shot down, U.S. forces pounded the area near Saddam Hussein's ancestral home of Tikrit with bombs and mortar shells.

Two F-16s flew low over the marshy area and dropped at least two 500-pound bombs near where the helicopter crashed, CNN Senior International Correspondent Nic Robertson reported from Tikrit, 110 miles (175 km) north of Baghdad.

Dozens of artillery shells, mortars and howitzers rained down on the area, Robertson said, beginning late Friday and going into early Saturday. (On the Scene: Nic Robertson)

2. Nothing more..
... than a very expensive fireworks display designed to cow the locals. That'll shock and awe 'em! Tomorrow those people will be out in that field searching for scrap metal and unexploded ordnance to fashion into booby-traps. Ridiculous.

3. this stage is called "lashing out blindly"
It shows Iraqis that not only can the occupation forces not control the people of Iraq, they cannot control their own tempers either.

5. Bush Responds
...to any killings in Iraq, regardless of the response, even bombing an empty field. It's part of his tic for tac, we'll show them mentality. He and his handlers figure the more bombs he drops the more votes he can claim in next years election.

7. slash and burn Iraq, redux
The result of not having a plan. Thanks, Bush. The cost of those bombs could have been well spent on Houston schools, where you lied on test scores.
