Greens and Dems to Runoff for SF Mayor
Just heard on the radio (KGO) the vote totals for SF Mayor:

Almost all the precincts are reporting and the leader is Gavin Newsom, a Dem, with 40 percent of the vote. In second is the Green Party candidate Matt Gonzalez with 20 percent. Since no candidate received more than 50 percent, there will be a runoff between these two top candidates to be the Mayor of San Francisco.

More advancement in the electoral process for the Greens.

3. Won't happen...
The Right (all 15% of San Francisco) will vote en masse for the Democratic candidate, much like the Left rallied behind Chirac last year in France.

7. Me too. The Democrat is conservative. He's funded by the Hearst family
(right?) and had an initiative on the ballot to make panhandling illegal in certain places in the city.

He's also a young, multi-millionaire developer.

8. my understanding is that he's gotten a lot of contributions by big corps
big business seems to be behind Newsom. The corporate hotels and the developers, etc. I believe he was the or a major supporter of the "care not cash" thing to take away the funds to the homeless and provide them "care" whatever that supposedly meant. I guess in SF the corporate business establishment knows to get behind a Dem as as Repuke has no chance.

Maybe the some of the more liberal voters who went for Angela Alioto (16%) and Tom Ammiano (10-11%)will go for the Green candidate, Matt Gonzalez in the runoff?

Anyone know the latest with the implementation of the IRV that SF approved earlier this year?
