and there you have a list full of points to get the American Economy back on track.

I have issues with that dogpile at the beginning...
...and Edwards' "We don't need people like YOU" at Dean. Low class all the way. If I were Dean, I probably would've said "we don't need people like YOU who don't have a hope in Hell of winning this nomination clogging up the people who CAN win's time to talk!" but then I'd be a huge hothead.

73. It's not about getting a pass...
...it's about not having three candidates jumping down your throat for no reason. It's about not having a guy holler "We don't need guys like YOU." It's low and ridiculous, especially when Dean's said it before and no one of them had a damn thing to say before their campaign ships started sinking like Lusitania.

Winners Clark, Kerry, Sharpton

Losers DK, Lieberman and Gephart for not showing up
of course the news will not give anyone any credit for anything good and they will use all negative soundbites, I thought it was a good debate. Joe Klien and Candy Crawley can not ever give a decent review because they are whores. I thought they did a good job with the young people.

44. Winners and Losers
Won:

Sharpton (he needs to be on the ticket, with DK preferably)
Kucinich (Started slow, his first question was about PCs or Macs for christ's sake...picked it up with his 'rock the boat' line and his 5 points on how to get the economy going, he had the best commercial too).

DEFINITE LOSERS

Gephardt (youth too good for ya?)
Dean (he got owned by Sharpton and Edwards on the flag issue. He side stepped the question by the audience member 2 times...finally on his 3rd time he said he wasn't for bigotry).

Did you hear him talk about how the Republicans accuse Democrats of threatening to take away folk's guns... and how Democrats should try to appeal to them by speaking about how the Republicans want to steal their rights, and educational opportunites?

What makes that any different than appealing to poor white trash?

Edwards...and his entreaty to Democrats to appeal to Zell Miller...

Soo, Eddie boy, got yourself in a box.

Sharpton: Infantile, ego-driven, destructive fool.

BTW what defines whether a person is "white trash" or not?

Is it geography, finances, dental hygene, type of dwelling, educational level, political affiliation, sexual orientation?

If I have rotten teeth in, say Indiana, I am poor and I live in a double wide am I white trash?

Can a gay person be white trash?

Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 08:41 PM by Ripley
What don't you understand?

He defended his position about reaching out to certain southerners and he did it well. You know it was very telling when Anderson Cooper asked Edwards if what he meant was that the Democrats should exclude the "confederate bumpersticker guys?" and which other groups does he plan on excluding from the Democratic party?

You know you can keep insulting southerners and expect a different result. But I believe Einstein said that would be insanity.

96. Differences
There are people who fly the confederate flag because they are misguided and buy into the "heritage" crap. But I don't think people are insincere if they have a "heritage not hate" sticker. I just think they literally don't know better. But they believe very strongly that their advocacy is legitimate.

Everyone knows what a swastika means. There might be a few people who fly the swastika in an attempt to conjure up the good ole days when it wasn't a symbol of hatred, but I don't know them.

Deam was using the guy with the confederate flag as imagery, as a symbol. he wasn't generalizing. But you are.

95. You're missing the point.
Dean SAID the Confederate flag was a racist symbol. Of course it is. Not the point.

He has not been advocating displaying the Confederate flag but instead he's talking about reaching out to the southern white working-class guys who have Confederate flags on their pickup trucks and who vote Republican, contrary to their own economic interests.

More thoughts here.

102. Exactly. (Jumping into this debate though I know it's a briar patch)
He could have just as well said...

People driving 12 yr old cars with a Bush/Cheney sticker.

Certainly doesn't mean he adores Bush/Cheney stickers.

Dems have written off the working class south vote for awhile.
To our detriment.

And yes that is a form of bigotry in itself.
As Cooper said - what other votes to you see as unworthy?

And don't even think about accusing me of supporting the flag as a worthy symbol.

I was one of those in GA who was organizing to get the rebel emblem off our state flag in 2000.

We organized a rally, march and debates locally.

I've taken my licks on this issue.
Thank you very much.

It is a hot button issue in the south.
But I HAD to learn to speak reasonably with people about it.

70. Dean should not apologise
Its obvious that Dean is not a racist, Sharpton had a point though and "we don't need you" was going a bit too far. Anyway I kinda liked it when Daisy Duke would climb into the General Lee.

90. Candy Crowley Is a Right Wing Cronie Pig!
All she did was spin.. she didn't think any one of them did well. Hello??? Was she even WATCHING?! The crowd loved the candidates from all angles that I saw.. then that idiot Paula Zahn echoed Crowley's report of misery and they trotted out some young right wing mtv correspondent to echo the spin one more time. AWOL has them all in his back pocket.

Is there just ONE unbiased news station??? somewhere??? without all the right wing constant spin spin spin??

60. Because his campaign will run the number s tonight.
And they will show he missed the mark.

He won't really apologize, he'll just "explain and amplify" his statement. So much for the "straighttalker".

64. Paula is such a bitch
she wants to trap Clark, hell she wants to trap all the candidates. She is a disgrace, she can not accept fact as fact. I liked Clark's statement about it not making a difference whether the audience likes his answer about marijuana, they asked a question and I answered it. I like how he talked about the drug testing in the military, maybe it will come out when he debates * in the General election.

She kept interrupting him and nag, nag, nag, nag, nag, nag, nag, nag....on the SAME damn question. She didn't like the answer she got so tried it again and again. She has grated on my last nerve!I never watch her anyway. Now I remember why.

61. Dean didn't win, but I don't think he lost at all.
This flag flap will be forgotten soon...like probably Thursday when the Dean camp makes their big announcement.

Every time that Dean has been declared dead, he's only risen stronger than before. I expect Dean to still be at the top or in the top three, just like he was today, in the next week.

Dean didn't do that well tonight on several accounts, but Sharpton is a double-edge blade. He's a Love him/hate him sort of a personality. Carol also obviously defended Dean's view and that will be noticed by black voters just as much as Sharpton in some quarters. Dean also stood his ground against mulitple attackers without backing down. That's a plus in many people's books too.

I have a feeling that the pot question will last longer than the flag question.

72. Thank Zeus Dean didn't cave to the loonies and apologize.
He answered the damn question straight up. This will do nothing but gain him support and the money will be rolling in.

I disagree Keph, I think he did excellent on every attack. He was pretty funny, too saying he knew he was the front runner because of all of the buckshot in his behind. Now I'm sure Kerry will attack him saying he is lying..he's not the frontrunner, I AM.

65. filthy right wing media cheerleading for their fav strawman Howard Dean
Plastic Paula hammering Kerry "but he's the front runner, isn't that the reason you're all attacking poor lil Howie" ?

You just know the media lusts for Dean to get this thing so they can sit back and watch Bush crush their "angry, liberal, antiwar" strawman candidate. Damn, it's so f--ing obvious.

92. Anyone who threatens to role back all of Bush's tax cuts is FOX's enemy
So by that logic, I conclude that "he is a Democratic candidate that Fox can support so that he loses handily to Bush". Which is why you are only hearing positive things about Dean from FOX.

93. Yes, its very true.
A lot of rightwingers have "endorsed" Dean. William Kristol, Tucker Carlson, the list goes on.

Zell Miller would've endorsed Dean if he wasn't recruited by Team Bush first.
