3. I'm goin' to tell you what
If some GOP party hack interfered with my election day right to vote he'd be watching election night returns from a hospital ward.

I look forward to the day when the NAACP or Black Panthers have armed "poll watcher" watchers.

6.  I live in Mississippi and the turnout is pretty good - they are
expecting the second largest (second to the turnout for Fordice vs. Molpus). Also, I was a volunteer on the re-elect Musgrove campaign and one of the district leaders said that there had been some Barbour people telling folks in the black communities that they couldn't vote if they hadn't paid their rent, etc. She (she is black and famaliar with the situations) said that next would come the offers to buy votes. The race is very close, termed a dead heat, for both Governor and Lt. Governor.

8. I hope she and they
report that to the NAACP. I'm quite sure they would be willing to aid them in filing complaints about Barbour's campaign. Can't vote if you haven't paid rent! How sickening!

And a belated welcome to DU!

Long lines, machine malfunctions mark today's voting

By Clay Harden

UPDATE 3:00 p.m.
Belhaven resident Elise Turner, 45, complained to the Secretary of State's office about her voting experience today.

When she arrived at her polling place at Belhaven College, the voting machines were down and there were no paper ballots.

"I was told I could leave and come back, but I waited for the ballots," Turner said. "Some people left."

When she got a ballot, Turner had to use a pen from a poll worker's purse and sit in a chair with people close enough to look at her votes on the ballot.

"This is just not acceptable," Turner said.

"You would think they would know any electronic device can fail and would have had paper ballots and a box of No. 2 pencils from Office Depot."
