Eckerd Drug Stores??

today at the local Eckerd I walked the whole store looking for an employee to get a price on an unmarked item. There were none. went to the only register staffed and the woman said Eckerd was down sizing the employees and there were no employees on the floor.

the shelves were packed, and more stuff was sitting in the isles.

is this just the local Eckerd or all Eckerds? Is the company in trouble?

1. I wonder if they're going to have the vendors stock the shelves, now.

It proved very profitable for walmart, when they discovered they had enough clout to force the vendors to do the work that walmart would have normally had to hire someone to do.

Is the Eckerd cashier also expected to run around between customers and stock the shelves?

2. Not even the vendors can do it!

Everyone is brokering out the shelf jobs these days. My old company, one of the largest confectioners in the world, has closed offices and slashed jobs until the blood runs... they've brokered out everything. Anyone you see stocking shelves these days, if not an employee of the store, is very likely working for a broker for minimum wage and no bennies.

4. Off topic: my dad remembers going to see the wreckage of the crash

that killed Patsy. We were on vacation visiting relatives near Camden. From what I can gather he saw a pretty fresh crash site. Upset him and mom...they really liked her/her music.

which is having a few problems.

And, yeah, all retailers hate hiring people. That's what happens when cheap prices are the most important thing.

You get service or price-- can't have both.
