Kerry,Gephardt,Edwards campaigns work together against potential Dean nod
WASHINGTON, Nov. 3 — In a rare alliance, strategists for John Edwards, Dick Gephardt and John Kerry discussed whether they could stop the Service Employees International Union from endorsing fellow Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean.

1. I am so glad that Wesley Clark
is apparently not involved in this sort of trash. It speaks well of him.

2. agreed
I have no doubt that the three mouseketeers will team up against Clark in much the same way if it starts to look like he's gonna get the AFSCME endorsement.

3. That's a Good Point
AFSCME is kind of fishing around to decide whether to endorse anyone. I think the betting is now that they'll hold of on an endorsement during the primaries, but we'll see.

9. i have heard that
AFCME was a bit dissapointed that Clarkistas were dropping out of the Iowa primary. They were also looking at Kerry at first, but I am not sure if he is still their choice. I haven't heard anything about Dean from AFCME.

12. supposedly AFSCME likes Dean too…
but intra-union politics may prevent them from endorsing the same candidate as SEIU.

at least that's what the original articles about the SEIU endorsement suggested.

11. Forget that Trippi asked Gep's guy to join up with Dean and attack Clark?
Of course, when Dean does it, it's fine.

Does it matter that he's pretending to be a populist to these people, many of whom have no idea what a centrist he has been throughout his career?

19. The perpetual Dean basher...
...only has the claims of Gep staffers to go on, which in light of this, seems quite dubious. Man, says much about the Dean campaign that all these Washington insiders are in such a tizzy to derail him. And with such obvious and shameful tactics...

Any of our nominees would be a better President than Bush, but the actions of these guys...man, ask me to hold my nose again, and I will. But I'd really rather not be forced to...

8. I agree
I am pleasantly surprised that Clark hasn't jumped in on the bashing, when it could be argued that he is the one most closely locked in battle with Dean.

Perhaps he's noticed that the attacks have helped Kerry and Gep only slightly, if at all, and he is choosing not to engage.

It's an interesting strategy, for sure. Smart.

29. Yes, it certainly does!
Wes is a good man indeed for this.

Meanwhile, when did Gep, Kerry and Edwards start acting like Repukes? STOP a union from giving it's endorsement?? Gee, guys I know you grew chickenshit when Bush came to you, but did you have to start ACTING like him too???

5. Kerry, Gephardt, and Edwards...
...can officially, if this is true, kiss any hope of a Veep nomination goodbye.

And yeah, I noticed Clark's name isn't in this. He truly is a man of character, a good man, and a VP we could all be proud of.

Assuming Dean gets the nod, of course, hehe.

Later.

7. I'm a Dean man..
but Clark gets major points from me for not participating in this activity.

It speaks volumes about Dean's strength.. the idea that it would take the coordination of three hardened Congressional veterans with so many years of experience among them.. it speaks volumes..

23. SEIU should be supporting Gephardt
Dean hasn't been unfriendly to unions, but Gephardt has been there 100%. While Dean was pimping NAFTA as Chair of the Governor's Association (and Kerry was voting for it) Gephardt led the unions and workers in opposition. Gephardt has done more for unions and labor and working families than any of the other candidates.

If Dean gets SEIU, that will be a HUGE victory for him. I don't like Dean, and don't want him to win, but if he starts to get the majority of the union vote, I might change my mind.

this translates into Dean scaring the shit out of Edwards, Gephardt and Kerry (Kerry? didn't he already implode?).

27. This explains it.
"It's Dean or nobody," said SEIU spokeswoman Sara Howard. That announcement prompted top aides to Edwards, Gephardt and Kerry to convene a conference call during which they asserted that each of their candidates are nobody.
