Bush says...."god" chose him to be prez....
:eyes:

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,6903,1075950,00.html

President George W. Bush stood before a cheering crowd at a Dallas Christian youth centre last week, and told them about being 'born again' as a Christian.
'If you change their heart, then they change their behaviour. I know,' he said, referring to his own conversion, which led to him giving up drinking.

Behind Bush were two banners. 'King of Kings', proclaimed one. 'Lord of Lords', said the other. The symbolism of how fervent Christianity has become deeply entwined with the most powerful man on the planet could not have been stronger.

Few US Presidents have been as openly religious as Bush. Now a new book has lifted the lid on how deep those Christian convictions run. It will stir up controversy at a time when the administration is keen to portray its 'war on terror' as non-religious.

The book, which depicts a President who prays each day and believes he is on a direct mission from God, will give ammunition to critics who claim Bush's administration is heavily influenced by extremist Christians.

Don't know about you...but this freaks me out...

5. I would love to know how pictures like this happen:

It's not just a matter of putting the right backdrop in place. You'd have to precisely position the photographers as well.

Just out of curiosity- does anyone know what the procedure is for photographers at these engagements? Are they assigned a section to stand in, or can they freely roam about? The number of Bush/halo pictures I've seen suggests the former.

11. completely stage managed
if you read the piece about Bush in the carrier, the administration put an advance man on the ship days in advance to stage the whole thing for photographs. He decided what time of day Bush should arrive so he had the right glow from light on his face when the photo was taken.

Nothing left to chance.

The bigger question is what is the difference between photos like this of Bush and what General Boykin (?) said? None. Seems like at a time like this the prez should not be talking about how Christian he is.

13. Strange...
Just out of curiosity- does anyone know what the procedure is for photographers at these engagements?

Usually, they can roam unless it's very crowded.

Really, though, looks like there would be no way to avoid the backdrop from any angle and still get a full face in the picture. You could shoot it from way to the side, but then you wouldn't get a full face. As it is, the photographer had to wait for Bush to turn to his right.

18. ok, that's just scary
I haven't considered myself a Christian for many years now, but I know blasphemy when I see it. If you're a true Christian this kind of self-deification should really be freaking you out right now.

12. How about this quote from the article?
"The book also shows that in the lead-up to announcing his candidacy for the presidency, Bush told a Texan evangelist that he had had a premonition of some form of national disaster happening.

Bush said to James Robinson: 'I feel like God wants me to run for President. I can't explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me. Something is going to happen... I know it won't be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it.'"

How much of a crazed fanatical egomaniac would a person have to be to think the Deity specifically wanted HIM - a person that is completely unqualified - to be in office during this predicted disaster?

14. Didn't God speak to David Koresh and Jim Jones too?
Bush should be viewed as a psychotic charismatic lunatic who just got a mainstream leadership position anmd nothing more.

Bush is a danger to freedom and has already imposed his views on the people, several times. This is known as FASCISM.

15. Well, it sure the hell wasn't the POPULAR VOTE
that got him into the oval office.

So, well, maybe it *was* God who chose him.
