I think you're right
He was on Cheney's list to think about. Rice and Powell are damaged goods from liegate. Ridge is the only choice.

Unfortunately, he looks like he should have 666 tattooed to his forehead and we may end up replacing an evil puppet for an evil overlord (aka Sauron) if Bush gets impeached over this.

3. Powell has deniability on SlaughterGate
He didn't use Niger and he said the tubes were disputed by some at the UN. The media LOVES Powell and will go on and on about the FIRST AFRICAN-AMERICAN PRESIDENT (not counting Clinton). The Senate will confirm Powell in 30 seconds.

1. I always thought it was the Speaker of the House.
That would be Dennis Haster if I am on track here....

No Bush can appoint anyone he wants, like Nixon appointed Ford
Then the Senate just confirms it with 51 votes. Bush will pick the most electable person who could run for President if he is forced out before the election himself.

IMAGINE PRESIDENT KERRY!!

4. The Speaker of the House becomes President only if both VP and PRes die
THat's the Succession Clause of the Constitution. This is different if the VP resigns like Agnew did. Hastert would never be appointed VP over Powell or Ridge--or Gumby!

They need someone...
With (ostensibly) more "credibility" to front for all of Dub's lies--preferrably someone who's been there and lied about that before!

Plus, they know all the media whores would say that appointing Powell was, in their favorite Bushspeak phrase, "Bold". :eyes:

B-)

Gumby
Yep, it will be everybody's favorite claymation charectar, who will take any position he is given by anybody. One moment he can be a soft cuddly "compassionate Conservative," and the next a snarling tidal wave of conservative violence. And best of all, Gumby doesn't think, being made of clay, so he won't ever take a stand on his own.

Oh wait, I guess they already have someone like that.

If you mean on the ticket
and not through resignation or firing...the it would almost certainly be Rudy Guiliani. No doubt in my mind.
