Republican True Colors - Freedom be Damned! I'm a Coward!
Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 04:19 PM by NightOwwl
Where are all those "macho" Republicans, strutting their stuff, demonizing the Democrats as cut-and-run cowards? Are they actually admitting they are willing to give up their 200 year old rights as American citizens to be "safer?" Rights that were fought and died for by fellow Americans? Look who's cowering in fear, ready to give up the Constitution and the freedoms it represents. Well, knock me over with a feather..it ain't the Democrats.

I started thinking about this because these quotes from a Boston Globe editorial really hit a nerve:

"I would have expected proud defiance of anyone who would suggest that a mere terrorist threat could send this country into spasms of despair and fright so profound that we'd follow a leader who considers the law a nuisance and perfidy a privilege."

"Never would I have expected this nation -- {snip} -- would cower behind anyone just for promising to "protect us."

Interesting, isn't it, that the cut-and-runners from the Constitution, so amazingly ready to give up their rights, are Republicans. One would think that with all the name-calling going on against us, we would be the ones roll over and play dead. But it is Democrats who are showing what it means to be true American Patriots. And I've found the perfect quote to represent each party:

Democrats: "Give me Liberty or Give me Death." -Patrick Henry

Republicans: "I would rather be a coward than brave because people hurt you when you are brave." -E.M. Forster

I have an idea. I'm going to print a few of these quotes and leave them around where people can find them. I think there are some people ready to tip...this might give them a nudge. Anyone want to join in, feel free...you probably had to go to the grocvery store anyway!

1. Repugs are "capitulators", handing the Constitution to the terrorists.

2. Great idea about leaving quotes around for all to see!
I try not to be too optimistic about anything these days, but I must admit to feeling a sense of optimism about the coming year.

With all of the truly outrageous things this Admin has done, there is one thing we Dems should not ignore - the fact that BU$HCO and its supporters are NOW ON THE DEFENSIVE.

Think about it. At this time last year, it was the Dems who were defending themselves and their positions, and now it's the Repugs who are on the ropes.

More importantly, the Dems were defending themselves against words and ideas - being called unpatriotic for questioning Bush and his policies, being called weak if they criticized the war in Iraq (or the alleged 'war on terror').

But the Repugs are now having to defend their own ACTIONS -- there's nothing ephemeral about the charges being hurled at people like DeLay, Libby, Frist, et al. And therein lies the difference.

So I am cautiously optimistic ...
