Is Christmas Eve a bad time to rant about Habitat for Humanity?
I have been donating them for more than 15 years now, ever since we both lost our jobs and I saw a wonderful made for TV movie about how people become homeless after losing their jobs.

This year I could not donate earlier until recently. I made a mistake and answered a phone call, from a solicitor from HFH. Oh yes, I told him, your solicitation is on my desk I am ready to send money. No, please, he replied. Please let me get a pledge and will mail you a pledge card.

OK, they did and I sent them money. The check cleared my bank but I am still getting "reminders" from a Mr. Jonathan Reckford CEO of HFH - HopeBuilders. I don't know if this is the same group that called me, I do know that I used their envelope and the check was cleared. At first, I allowed for the two letters crossing path. But now this letter is dated Dec. 21 and my check cleared the bank Dec. 12!

I will never contribute to them again. Perhaps to a local chapter, but not to GA. Sorry Jimmy, you'll have to do without me.

There. I am feeling better. I think.

1. Send them a letter
I used to hear this all the time at the DNC. The right hand doesn't talk to the left one and it is irritating

2. I am
I am sending them their letter inside their envelope, but on the letter I am writing the check number and the date it cleared my bank.

And I am adding that I will never send them money again!

8. Maybe a kinder gentier machine gun hand....
Give them the benefit of the doubt. A reminder of the check clearing, minus the vinegar might be a better course to take.

The entire cycle, from check clearing to letting the reminder office know, to your mailbox might take a few days. Ten days, assuming 2 are the weekend, is only 8 business days total. :)

4. Please, no disrespect, but lighten up.
If you have any doubt that admin mistakes and screw-ups happen, look how well HFH worked for you for 15 years, and please cut them slack.
Look at FEMA; a newly energized entity wrapped up in Homeland Security (that name really sucks now; shades of Germany)totally screwed everything up. I know it's the inept crew running the country, and what's going to change?
But HFH has had one goal-to make peoples' lives better, regardless of political persuasion or color of skin. I really respect that.

5. It's been at least 10 years since my last donation to HFH
I stopped donating to them the day they called and aggressively tried to badger me into setting up an automatic donation from my checking account. I politely declined several times and told the caller I was busy cooking dinner, but he just kept pushing. I finally hung up on him and haven't sent a penny since. Now I donate to my local food bank and humane society.

7. So how do you think they should raise money?
I am sorry but I think these are petty complaints. Get caller ID and screen your calls. Works for me. If I am busy, I don't worry about answering my phone. When I have time, I just check the caller ID to see who called. No biggie.

10. Wow! Food banks and the humane society are
wonderful causes. I wish you had called HFH after being abused by them; they might have learned something. I hope since then they have; I've heard good things, and from Oprah, no less!

6. Have you considered that maybe they are being staffed by
volunteers and don't have a full time office staff to handle the mail, etc?

Just sayin . . .

9. To err is human, to fuck things up completely requires
a computer. I'm sure somebody just didn't do the right data entry when they got your check and their computer doesn't realize you've paid.
