The "Strict Constructionists" condone UNCONSTITUTIONAL Spying
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 02:03 PM by Armstead
A caller on CSPAN made an excellent point.

The same people -- starting with the administration -- who claim to be "strict constructionists" and demnd that judges follow the Constitution without deviation are the same people who believe that it is okay to spy, throw peoople in jail, etc. without the "strict constructionist" protections of the same Constitution.

In other words, if you've got a problem with corporations abusing rights, or if you believe that the Constitution should allow for protections of the rights of minorities, you are deviating from, the Constitution according to these hypocrites.

BUT if you want the administration to have the flexibility to toss out protections of citizen rights based on their "say so" you can still be a strict constructionist who respects the Constitution.

Hypocrites.

1. There's this funny thing about "Strict Constructionists"
As a group, their "constructionism" tends to be a whole lot less "strict" when it comes to the police powers of the State.

Like Alito with Search Warrants.

real conservative or libertarian.

As awful as he is on many issues, for example, Bob Barr gets it. He may be a conservative, but he at least is consistent in applying that against all abuses of government power.

The majority of Republican CONservatives and their sheeplike followers, on the other hand, are complete hypocrites about the Constitution.

I wish the leaders on our side would call them out on that more often. Either one is a "trict constructionist" on ALL issues or one is not. This "pick-and-choose" form of CONservative constructionism is a double standard of the most blatant variety.
