I am taking this moment to say I was WRONG about Capitol Hill Blue
The story about Bush screaming "It's just a Goddamned piece of paper" in reference to the constitution is now 100% plausible after spygate came to light. It fits the spygate story. In fact, after revelations that he tried to stop the spygate story from coming out by bullying the NYT editors, I'm 99.999% certain the CHB story is accurate!

1. it was believable fiction
a made up story that written to illustrate what we already believe. But it didn't happen.

2. Look at the timing
It was released when they were desperately scrambling to stop the spygate story from seeing the light of day.

5. How do you know for sure that it didn't happen,
unless you were there? Anymore than anyone knows it DID happen.

12. Believable
It is believable and I really do not believe it to be fiction. As a matter of fact I find most everything on CHB to be believable.

3. I agree. In light of what we now know?
That story is more than plausible.

4. agnostic here
why the need to "believe" one way or another. Skepticism is a healthy thing no matter what you read. Could be some blending of reality, gossip, imagination.

7. Having used that one
on my fundie mother, I can tell you first hand they just excuse it away as "we all have bad days/make mistakes. That's what God's forgiveness is for."

And yet, me piercing my belly button at age 18, or getting my ears pierced for my 19th birthday as a gift from my fiance, or getting a tattoo years after I no longer lived in their house, these are all things that I still get lectured for at age 24. They still "pray that I'll come back to Christ." Because these are things that thier religious denomination (NOT their *religion*, just their *denomination*) believe are wrong because they're succombing to 'being world-ly' and not being 'set apart from the ways of the world.'

Fucking Fundies

Anything goes if it's by a repuke who receives messages from God.

Any.Thing.Goes.

and what proof we have that it was said. I never really paid much attention at the time and then, boom...Snoopgate.

9. It's not whether it's plausible.
It was always plausible. In fact, all of CHB's stories are plausible...that's why they are so readily embraced.

It's whether any reputable news source will substantiate them. Until someone else gets these inside sources to talk, even anonymously, I'm going to maintain my skepticism.

15. What qualifies as a reputable news source these days?
The NY Times? The WP? The major TV news networks?

Sorry, but CHB is no more or no less credible than anyone else, not because they are great at what they do, but because everyone else is so crappy at what they do.

19. I'd take the Nation or the Village Voice or the
Washington City Paper...there are tons of liberal papers that would love to be able to print the stuff CHB throws out on a regular basis.

The fact that CHB is the ONLY publication that posts direct quotes of these insider meetings strikes me as extremely suspicious.

11. the way I look at Capitol Hill Blue...
...is that they are writing the script for the made-for-TV movie that will be made about Bush after his presidency is finally over. Every time you see a story from them, you know it's true, but you also know it probably didn't happen exactly that way.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

14. The way I see it CHB doesn't site sources because they cant
Their are a lot of newspapers that have been breaking stories and don't site their sources because then their sources would dry up. Especially with the Bush Administration which won't ever talk to the press.

I agree Walt. That article seems to fit with what is happening now like a classic puzzle. It seems too coincidental. Doug Thompson has a shit load of contacts in the Whitehouse because he use to be a Republican! It just makes sense.

have confirmed the report. I don't know her sources, but I don't think she throws accusations and claims around carelessly.

I believe it was said, proof notwithstanding. It's simply something he WOULD say. It's his nature.
