Are we headed for a civil war?
I am becoming more that a little worried about the possibility of a civil war. If congress wants to save our nation they had better STAND UP all together and DO something about the invasion of our privacy and the multitude of CRIMES perpetrated on us by the Bush administration.

I just read that Vermont may be considering seceding from the Union, President Dean maybe?...

It is stunning to me that so many people in this country have forgotten, or chosen to ignore, what the big to-do was back in the 1770's. The stuff I read in my local paper and elsewhere is sickening. I have gone back and read quotes from people like Samuel Adams, Thomas Paine, Patrick Henry et al that add to the context of the times that spawned our Revolution and Constitution and I am sorry to say, those men would be drawn and quartered if they turned up today saying the same things. We, as a nation, have totally lost sight of the principles and ideals that this country was founded upon and it is heartbreaking to me.

(side note: my family? HereSince1685 :) )

edit: typos

12. I know what you mean
sometimes I think that the folks back then had more moral courage....but then I remember that not everyone living in the colonies at the time were for Revolution. In my own family, there were people who fought for the British and others who fought for the Americans-caused all sorts of problems, especially for the American, who was not trusted by his superiors.
But the point is that he stuck to the cause--and we must remain firm.

I love it when freepers tell me to "go back where I came from", because, like you, my family's been here quite a while-and my husband, who is part Native American, has family that's been here even longer than mine!

If Civil War comes, and after this latest revelation of dictatorial powers being seized by the tyrant, King George, it's getting more likely, it will be a Guerilla War fought in the streets between factions of the fascist Right against the freedom lovers on the Left.

4. Vermont already seceded once
and became the first republic of Vermont under Ethan Allen
There has been a movement for "the Second Republic of Vermont" around for about the last hundred years

5. I'm moving to Vermont then.
:) Congress will NEVER stand together on this. Have you watched the House of Representatives on the floor lately? I have NEVER seen the parties so divided. IMCPO, a Civil War is coming IF Congress doesn't stop it...and I don't see THIS Congress doing that. With these RWers it's PARTY above COUNTRY.

6. If Republicans in Congress continue to care more about their party
than they do about the good of the country, then I think it might be inevitable.

8. Secession was tried once before.
It precipitated a fairly significant war back in the 19th century. Perhaps you have heard about it?
