Election Results in Iraq are Anti-American
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 08:16 AM by louis c
In a real shocker (sarcasm intended) the Iraqi people went to the polls in record numbers to vote AGAINST the political parties favored by the United States.

<snip>
"The early results suggest that a government that was heavily secular and nationalist under (Saddam) Hussein will become far more religious and sectarian in character, with Shi'ite and Sunni Muslim parties dominant, raising the chances of sectarian tension for years to come."

<snip>
"The initial results showed former prime minister Iyad Alawi's secular party finished a distant third in Baghdad province behind the Shi'ite coalition and Sunni alliance. Alawi won fewer seats ..in the capitol, where secular candidates had hoped to do well."

<snip>
"Alawi, with the quiet support of many Americans........had hoped to win over....Shi'ites disappointed with the current government, dominated by Islamic religious parties"

"Instead, the preliminary results fell in line with the predictions.......(that) the Shi'ites would control about half of the 275-seat parliment....."

Now, let me get this straight. Thousands of Americans have died, tens of thousands have been maimed, hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been killed or maimed, and a half trillion dollars will be spent so that Islamic fundamentalists, who hate our guts will control Iraq? Hey, President Asshole, great plan.

1. Yes, you have identified what was obvious to many before the invasion.
Yet, the US media will publicize this and spin this as a great victory for the US and the ME, neither of which will be true. We have just put Iraq squarely in the hands of Iran and splinter the little bit of Iraqi nationalizm that had kept they away from Iran under Saddam. Americans are ignorant of history so it won't mean much to most US citizens.

5. So does this mean?
That bushco will now consider the elected Iraqi government terrorists? Maybe he will 'spy' on them now.

7. So I guess they weren't rigged
Not by the Americans anyway. Might the UIA be trying its own Florida here?

Don't worry Mr Louis, so the puppet government (of religious Shiites) got re-elected, why would they stop being puppets now?

9. ah...man...just when I had it all figured out
Bushco puppets. Iranian mullah puppets. Saudi princes' puppets.

These days I occasionally just think the worse thoughts - sometimes I wish they'd just glass the whole place.

Well, I imagine a whole lot of horse trading, Iraqi style, is coming up. Let's see if the natives can do better than us North American folk.

...to do its dirty work. Remember Osama bin Laden and the mujahideen who the USA supported against the USSR?
