Just how many freaking elections are they having in Iraq

I remember last year around the RNC convention time all the RNC conventioneers showing up with the 'purple finger' (voters in Iraq have their fingers dipped in purple ink so they know who voted).

SO call me crazy, but it seems like this is the 3rd or 4th election they've had in Iraq. Am I wrong and what were all these elections for?

1. I'm no expert, but I believe the previous election was to select the

people that selected the people that ran in this election.

the previous election was temporary status to set up the constitution and elections for this time.

someone please come along and correct me if wrong.

2. Three elections in Iraq.

First - Assembly to write a constitution
Second - Ratify the Constitution
Third (this one) - People who will actually hold office.

It is reasonable.

There have also been elections in Afghanistan that have been widely trumpeted by the right. You maybe getting some of those confused with the Iraqi elections.
