Emotionally draining politics 'debate' with a friend...
It started out with me laughing about the 'war on Christmas,' and it turned out she believed in it. I said something the lines of "yeah, saying Happy Holidays at WalMart's a war." She refused to believe that "Happy Holidays" was what the 'war' was about. I looked up some rw blogs and FR to show her some first hand rightwing whining about it and she just said "I don't believe all I read on the internet." Then I dissed Faux news for coming up with it, she just said, about their bias, that at least they're honest about the bias (bullshit). I said that the American media wasn't reporting a lot of stories that made the administartion look bad and that one should look to internation sources as well. She then lecured me on how she couldn't believe that someone born a Jew, like me, could listen to outside sources because they're dripping with anti-Semitism, unlike the US. I tried to explain that not supporting Israel's policies was not anti-semitism and that frankly, I'm sick of both sides, but she wouldn't have it. And then she accused me of only disliking politicians because they were conservative "What do you think about Regan?" "He screwed over the middle class." "See, that's what I mean." "What? He did."

1. I wouldn't know where to start or why you bother,
except if she's a really good friend, drop it.
Or consider losing your friendship, which has happened to me
because I didn't drop it.
I know everyone thinks they can reason with some people,
but it's not always true.
So do you compromise your ideals, sort of,
or lose a friend?
I've found that's a very tough call, especially
if there's a possibility your friend will wake up.
If you're incommunicato because of politics,
regardless of who is/was correct,
it won't matter.

5. This is the first time politics came up.
It started with Plame. "Oh that woman? I read that she wasn't undercover or anything. Everyone knew."

3. I know what you mean, I have not spoken with several of my
friends (after how many years of not talking does one cease to be a friend?) in years because they started to drink the kool-aid. They don't read, see, or hear anything except faux and it's corporate clones, they are thoroughly indoctrinated.

4. Faux News "HONEST" about their bias?? BWAAAAHAHAHA!!!
Every other word out of their collective mouth is "fair and balanced"!
They don't even mention Kristol's or Krauthammer's association with PNAC when they have these idiots on, like, every night! Brit Hume sits down with "the Beltway Bush-boosting Boys" and Mara Liasson (who is woefully outnumbered and who is herself wishy-washy) and they pretend that it's some sort of balanced discussion!

Screaming Hannity, who cuts everyone off after about 2 words.
O'Lielly.

"Honest" about it??? Bullshit!

The facts conflict with their context and until you get them to not see that you can't show them the truth.

So you go backwards....

9. "christians are being persecuted - all 80% ofd 'm"
You can't really have a vast majority being persucuted by a minority? (never mind that only a minority of that 80% is fundi).
I suppose she just *loves* progressive politicians?
