Former Gov. Lowell P. Weicker Jr. to take on Leiberman?

My father was telling me that although he was once a republican he is very liberal compared to many senators. I need to read more about him, but I would be happy to vote for anyone better than Leiberman here in CT.

2. I think he became Governor of CT as an independent.
He was a good Republican Senator.

3. yeah, from what I've read he seems pretty liberal
even though he is an ex-republican (his whole platform top run against Lieberman is anti-war)

It would feel good to have an opportunity to vote for a good replacement for Joementum.

4. he is liberal
compared to Lieberman - he was elected Gov as an independent - but lost a lot of his popularity when he imposed a State income tax in CT

5. The difference
Lieberman will vote for Reid as majority leader, Weicker will vote for Mitch McConnell which would not be a good thing.

7. No
He would run as an independent and probably caucus with the Democrats. I'm all for it. Lieberman must go!

8. Independent does not mean he won't vote for McConnell
He was a Republican at one time and I wouldn't trust him to do the right thing

6. He was on the Watergate panel.
He helped get rid of Nixon. He was a Republican then and that gave him creds. He is very smart and, I think, somewhat moderate. I'll allow that he is less conservative than Lieberman.

9. Lowell Weicker told Charles Colson to go to hell --
-- when Colson tried to solicit his support for Nixon.

I think he'd bring a fiercely independent vision to another Senate term, and dear lord it would be terrific if he defeated Holy Joe in the process.

Weicker is no Wellstone Democrat. But to his significant credit, he's not a Nixon Republican either. I'd take him over Lieberman any day of the week.
