San Francisco: More offending videos -- this time it's police officers.
<snip>
SAN FRANCISCO - A police officer who produced videos parodying life on the force was suspended Thursday after the mayor and police chief blasted the vignettes as racist, sexist and homophobic.

Officer Andrew Cohen, 39, said he was suspended for posting inappropriate and unauthorized pictures about the department on the Internet.

"I don't know what's going on," Cohen told The Associated Press. "I've never been in trouble before."

Cohen is one of about 20 officers expected to be disciplined for video clips that Police Chief Heather Fong called "egregious, shameful and despicable."

Just wanted to offer a reality check -- San Francisco may not be the liberal oasis you think it is. The 49er's had a similar scandal earlier this year. You'd think these officers would have heard about it. This sort of humor reveals much more contempt for the citizens of SF than compassion, imho. And please don't ask me to cultivate an appreciation of "gallows humor". I'm not laughing.

The police have more than enough weapons.

4. There have been too many abuses of tasers.
It was the 'tasering' of a 70+ year old grandmother that pushed me over the edge.

2. I have never called a cop a "pig" before...
...and I would say that the cops behind this embarrassment are pigs -- but that would be an insult to pigs.

There was a clip of Cohen on KGO a few minutes ago; says he's not sorry he made the video, but is sorry if anyone was offended (which, as we all know, is not an apology, but an "I regret YOU feel that way")... but, of course, he says it's not offensive because it was not his intention to offend anyone.

Also known as: "Why are you people getting so upset about minstrel shows? I'm sorry if you people are offended, but we didn't mean anything by it, so you have no right to feel offended... And, anyway, blackface is FUNNY..."

Pssst... Hi, 9SF! :hi:

6. Is there something about 'entitlement and power' ...
that causes these guys to lose their better judgment or do they just not give a flying f*ck? I can't explain it.

"I regret you feel that way" -- Ain't that just a * era wallopin' POS excuse for outrageous behavior? There's a freakin' pandemic of doublespeak and insincerity these days, isn't there?

(Always good to see you posting here, Sapph! I've missed you! :loveya: )

5. OK I saw portions of the video on CNN
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 10:15 PM by proud2Blib
and flame me if you want, but I didn't see anything that wrong with it. It looked like a fraternity prank. So while these cops rank low on the maturity scale, I don't think they deserved to be punished for it (unless there is a really bad portion I didn't see).

Okay - on edit , I just saw the part where the cop runs over the African American woman. THAT IS OFFENSIVE.

8. No, these police make claim to be "professionals".

There is nothing professional about this.
The police should not be allowed to engage in "Fraternity pranks".
I do not trust people who play fraternity 'pranks'.

9. I saw part of this video on the news this morning and they
showed them running over a black homeless woman. She then gets up and starts cussing them:wtf: There's nothing funny about any of this. It's unprofessional and I agree with the mayor.
